Jeju Air 737-800 gear up landing slams into wall

This guy points out something that struck me watching the video....That it looked like they were coming in damn fast. As he points out it looks like no slats at least (probably no flaps either).

But sure looks like touching down very far down a runway with very high speed. One would think that with their Mark-1 eyeball, and some basic airmanship/self preservation the sight picture would be telling you "we're gonna go off this runway at over 100kts and probably die.."

But if they still had fuel....and a flyable plane.....seems kinda crazy that this happened.

I’m just going to tell everyone I was drinking with you til 4 hours before you flew

People who jump to conclusions about this stuff should be mercilessly mocked.

If I die in a crash and one of you fornicators starts jumping to conclusions before the facts are in I’m coming back to haunt you and my chosen method will be teabagging.

I said the same thing once and ended up in a YouTube video. “yOu’Re NoT InTeReStEd In AvIaTiOn SaFeTy?”

The video I saw looks like it flew with only the engines dragging for a good distance. I am not sure the logic behind that. I would think if you are going to gear up, you'd want the belly of the craft creating as much drag as possible.

My read of 737 info is that an alternate extension of flaps will move slats to full-extend with no option to retract. Flaps can be retracted and extended electrically, where a Flaps 15 is recommended.

It looks like the electric extension for flaps is powered off XFR BUS 2 using the electric motor-driven standby pump.

If they lost both engines after a go-around, and the APU was not running, they may have not had power for alternate re-extension of the TE flaps.
