JC Cyclists.

Just discovered this thread-I broke out my Gary Fisher Marlin that I've had since high school and have been using it as my daily driver for about the past month. I forgot how much I like riding as a form of transportation.

New ride is fully complete! Got a few rides on it last week with my other wheels, but now she is ready to really rock!

What's the component breakdown?

SRAM XX 2x10 drivetrain, Fox 140mm Float Fork, wheels are WTB Frequency 23mm rims/DT Swiss 240 hubs, thru axles front and rear, KS dropper post, Cane Creek 110 headset (first non-Chris King in many years) Race Face carbon bar, Race Face stem and Magura brakes with a 180mm front rotor. I didn't really mess around as usual ;)

How do you like the 2x10 rig up in the mountains? Mine works fine down on the flat lands, but I've always wondered if I'd miss the extra gears with more terrain to deal with (both up and down).

I dig it, I was running 42/28 before up front with the 26" bike but now rocking 39/26 with this. Add that to a 11-36 cassette and the gear range isn't bad at all. Sure, I'll spin out on the lift runs and not being to spin my way up the steepest climbs, but it works well for most of the riding I do.

You need a 1x11!

He needs a single speed!

I'll eventually convert my hard tail to a single speeder when the drive train dies. Until then I'll happily continue to be a gear changing hack :)

I run 3X10 but I run a bash guard on the outer ring so it is a hybrid 2X10

Of course I shralp the gnar pretty hard.

Never really need a big gear for DH look at most DH rigs usually a 1X9 with a road cassette and a middle ring with a chain guide

I'm looking to finally buy some shoes for my roadbike. I've got a pair of hybrid pedals but just looking to start using the SPD side. Anyone have suggestions on shoes/price range I should expect? I'm going to try to go to a store to try some on but I'm not sure what I should be looking for.

Get something affordable and comfortable, if you get something ridiculously stiff it might not be the most comfortable if you're not used to bike shoes. You could spend 40-350+ depending on what you get.

Gotcha thanks for the advice! Was going to go out and get a pair this weekend but I messed up my left knee and can't be biking :(

Spring through fall I put some pretty good miles on my Giant Roam 4, and Giant Defy 1. Both are great bikes, and have completely different purposes in life depending what kind of riding I'd like to do.
