JC Cyclists.

On a side note, I'm letting my mountain bike go and picking up a street bike. Do you guys have any suggestions in the $500 range?

I don't think you will find too many road bike options in that price range. I would be thinking about trying to raise a little more money and then looking in the used market.

Agreed, even an entry level, true road bike, is going to run in the $1200 to $1500 range. I you want to seriously get into road riding, I would save $2000 to $2500 to give yourself a few options. After that its all about going to your local bike shop and test riding some bikes. Pick whichever feels the most comfortable to you and go with it. Bikes in that price range will probably be equipped with standard pedals too. If I were you I would save for some nice shoes and clipless pedals for the bike as well, that will probably run you another $400 to $500.

Good luck! I wish you a speedy recovery.

Just saw the doc. Bone is looking good but still hasn't started to really fill in and calcify. No road for me for another 6 weeks. I will also be out of work until then. With bone not calcifying yet doc says that any jarring it may take from rough road could cause more fractures, especially in the outer third of the bone that was shattered. I am trying to stay positive, if there is a good side to this its that pedaling on the trainer is a hell of a lot harder than being on the road so maybe I'll get back in even better shape.

Have you ever ridden Zipp firecrests? Is the difference in price over the EC90's worth it?

Yes, I have 404 Firecrest clinchers on my road bike. If you can get a great deal I would say go for it, if not I would pass. They are awesome wheels but are pricey, I bought a set off the Zipp rep and would never pay retail.

So who here uploads there bike computer to strava or rides with the app running on there phone? I just picked up a Garmin 810 so I can upload everything. If I get some other people to do the same I'll start posting ask our my trainer rides here, a little motivation for is all.

I haven't yet, but I have been thinking of getting something this spring so I can better track my rides and I want HR and cadence. I will probably go a little cheaper with the 510 since I don't need the mapping feature. Will be a while before I am outdoors and posting rides though!

Not me. My rides are not a race.

Mine neither, but I would love to have all of my ride data for a season to track progress. It can also be fun for setting benchmarks against other local riders, meaning a person will upload a particular ride or even just a section to strava and others can try to best it just as a challenge.

I race for a challenge, I ride for fun.

The great thing about the garmin is you can ride on your trainer and then upload it. Even on the 510.

This is what I use it for. I follow most of the guys I race against, including team mates. Gives me an idea of where I stand with the rest of the Cat 4/5 group with numbers to back it up.

I am on Strava, it's great interval training. I would much rather prefer to ride with a group of friends, but if I want to do some intervals I'll go out and find segments to challenge myself. Actually, challenge is such a weak word. I like to find segments to absolutely destroy myself. Maybe I'm sick and twisted, but that's my version of fun. :)

YES!!!!!!!!!

Strava can also depress me. Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park is one of our local benchmarks, and while the mountain is 1500+ feet, we only time from where the road turns up the mountain, leaving about an 800' climb in three miles. My best is around 17 minutes and I am well behind the fast people, but I was making steady progress towards the fast numbers in the 15's. Then this summer some kid throws down a 13:45. Little bastard.
