Yeah, carbon is very repairable. There just aren't a lot of guys that do it. You frame will probably come back a few grams heavier but stronger as well. Even better, its not really that expensive. At least until you start adding paint again.

Just picked up my new ride last week, an 80s vintage steel Allez racing frame converted to 45/17 single speed by a friend of mine who's the head mechanic for a shop here in town. Put fiddy miles on it so far and haven't touched my Marin since. The Specialized fits me better and is a blast to ride. 27# fully dressed and 22# naked. I'm going to try to put 50 or 60 miles on one of them tomorrow. Wahoo!

I suppose you can't make a post about a new bike without pics.

Passed 100 miles last night on the way home, and I'd like to go put some more on today but I'm not sure if it's going to happen. Yes, those are windchimes made of titanium tubing.

Just did my first 50+ ride of the season with a 1500' climb in the middle. Not a summer pace, but the early season effort allowed me to keep it respectable.

View from the top of Bar Harbor this morning (shot with an Ipod camera, so not great quality):

New bike is done! First ride was tonight after I struggled this afternoon with the brake bleed. This thing absolute rips downhill, scary fast. Finished out the ride with the lights on, great night! More pics soon after we get from our Fruita trip next week!

You'll have to let me know what you think of the 2x10 rig in that part of the country.

Also, what is the final weight?

I'm rocking the 42-28 up front right now, which is pretty ok so far. I've been finding myself wanting the 39-26 more than a few times so far, but that also has to do with my current fitness. Since I've been rocking the singlespeed a lot, my knees have been bothering me a bit so I'm glad to have gears again. I think for big high country stuff, the smaller chainrings would be nice for sure. But then again, the bigger gears are great for racing enduro/Super-D type stuff at the resorts so having both will be great. Either way 2x10 is where it's at.

Weight? Haven't gotten that far yet. Probably around 30 or so, it isn't light nor is it mean to be. I'm already a terrible climber, so it's all good :)

A few pics from our trip to Fruita this week...

Yours truly having a ripping good time!

Great shots! Reminds me of all the great single track riding I used to get in out west, but then it depresses me to realize that was 20 years ago. Who sped up the damn clock?

That riding is up near Grand Junction right? If so I think I have done some of that with all of my coming and going from Telluride in the early 90's, and climbing down at unaweep canyon. Makes me want to road trip again, but that's not going to happen.

Thanks! Yep, out in Fruita just west of GJ. We decided to park ourselves out here permanently to take advantage of all that Colorado has to offer, even if that means *gasp* commuting one day down the road again. Never say never on the road trip, when you make it happen look us up!

I've never been as scared on a mountain bike as I was on that trail. My friends and I were having a discussion of whether you could self arrest if you ate it off the side of the trail, and while one of my buddies thinks you would stop pretty quickly, I'm fairly certain that there would be little chance of it, and that you'd slide for a few hundred feet worth of road rash before you stopped.

I'd like to ride it again with a little bit more capable ride, and not my Gary Fisher Marlin.
