JC Cyclists.

I once had studded tires for my mountain bike, but sadly that was quite literally decades ago. It sounds like too much effort now, and if conditions are good I would rather be cross-country skiing this time of year.

No winter off roading yet in NeOhio- wettest year ever, and the ground won't freeze if its 35 and raining.
I'm trying to figure out a solution that keeps my feet from getting frostnip at 25-30 on a road bike. I've tried a bunch of things, and I think I'm going to try toe warmers next time.

I went and signed up for a spin class that starts next week and will run through the worst of winter. It is only once a week, but I am hoping that combing it with a few sessions on my own trainer each week will keep me reasonably fit until spring. I know a little about what to expect, but I was wondering if anyone else has any tips for making the most of it? Supposedly all of the trainers who run the sessions ride for real, so I am optimistic.

Speaking of indoors, does anyone else use the Sufferfest videos while on the trainer? They are kicking my butt!

I only have one of the spinervals videos and it owns me too. When it comes to Spin Classes, everyone is different, even if they are at the same skill level on the road. Enjoy it, keep us posted on how it goes!

I usually wear long sleeve underarmour under my jersey, and I know it defeats the purpose but I usually put a pair or jogging pants over my bib for the legs, I just wear thick socks under my shoes and I try not to ride when its wet and cold.

Two spin sessions under my belt so far. The trainer is a super fit road rider as well, and the group is generally very fit. The workout is outstanding, and so far it is completely kicking my rear. There are some marathon two hour sessions coming up that should be great. They will be more of a road simulation, with less of the intervals, isolations, and other training tidbits. I am going to up it to two spin sessions a week coupled with 1-2 1hr sessions on my fluid trainer, and I am optimistic that I will start the new road season fitter than I finished the last.

Two of my 5 rides...

2009 Specialized Transition Pro

Snazzy equipment. Would the Transition Pro be considered a time trial bike?

Yeah. It's been ridden in 2 TT's and 2 IronMan's (Kona 1/2 & Oceanside). I had a Felt B2 before that, and it was great for short stuff, but got too tight for long tri's.

Finished my 29er build. It has no suspension for now but that's fine for most of the Marin trail network. I love it it climbs great and I can still ride as well or better than the 26 inch wheel bikes that I own.

It is a Canfield Yelli Screamy.

I have only logged about 200 miles since Thanksgiving. Too much other stuff going on and bad weather on my days off. Time to get back on the horse. I may or may not be shopping for a different ride; I'm afraid my Marin is just not the right size for me. Fortunately, I have a standing offer from the seller I bought it from to buy it back for the same money, so I have that going for me.

Went out for the first time in a few months today and spun 22 miles, It was 60 and the wind was killer but was worth it. I definitely worked the cobwebs out of my legs today. Hopefully get some interval training in on the trainer at my crashpad if I sit a lot this week. We shall see, as long as the weather is in the 60's, not the 40's I don't mind winter being warmer.

I did about 22 on Sunday and it was breezy and in the upper 30's. With foot covers, tights, and wind top over a heavy top, I was toasty warm after about the first two miles.

I was out on the bike for the last six days. The last day I was out over six hours on the 29er I rode over Tam twice, got lunch at the beach, checked the surf and most importantly shredded the gnar. Can't beat the epic weather out this way. I almost feel bad telling you guys about it, almost ;)

I rode 40 Tuesday and 25 yesterday. Maybe ride today, play hockey tomorrow, Saturday off then a 70 miler on Sunday with the Superbowl Sunday gang.

Been on the SS a lot lately, mainly due to not having a squishy bike with gears since I'm still in the build phase. I'm beginning to think the singlespeed is the best early season training one can have!

How are you riding...oh wait, yeah, no snow! :)

We'll be out week after next.

Oh you!!!! I have started to supplement my long stints of reserve away from my bike with stationary bike intervals and soft rides. Interval rides lasting about 30 minutes and then the spins lasting about an hour, both followed by 20 minutes on a treadmill, alternating 3.5mph on a 12-15% incline and an 8MPH run, then a little weight training. I am trying to do it at least twice on 5 and 6 day reserve blocks. Call me a puss but I am looking forward to the 70's coming back to Middle Tennessee. Any of you guys have good hotel work outs that keep you in shape on the road?
