Do you guys think the 3G is necessary, or will wifi only suffice?
Very necessary. You will regret it if you don't get it.

I have an HP Touchpad and have found that the tablets still aren't a replacement for laptops. If all you are going to be doing is email and some web browsing it probably would be ok, but (for me anyway) the on screen keyboard is just too slow to use and the screen real estate just isn't as big as I need.

3G!!!!
I had a wifi only and there were times when I needed internet access and didn't have the option of buying 3G access. You can get the 3G and choose to activate the service on demand.
If you commute, the 3G is a lifesaver.
Yeah but you get what you pay for. Ive had an Acer NetBook before and it was awful.
Well I really want the MacBook Air for travel but my logic is that even if the Acer craps out after a year or so, I could replace 5 of them if I had to over the years for the cost of 1 Air. The 11.6 Acer has a faster processor and larger keyboard than the 10.2" Acer netbook (which I'm assuming you probably had).
I use my iPad 2 every day on layovers. Unless I am doing word processing it serves me fine.
You like really need to cut down on the number of "like's" you use when you like post. Like try it sometime.I share a different view about the 3G. I did not get it because a.) I already have it on my iPhone and b.) b/c Verizon wanted like 30+ bucks a month for like 1G of service. Wtf? I go through 1 G on my phone in like a few days. 2G goes up a lot and 3 is just a stupid amount of money. I just said forget it and went with wifi only. If I need to check something on the Internet and there is no wifi I just use my phone...kinda like now. My "pad" is a life saver on commutes though. Lots of Scrubs and Family Guy!

AT&T only charges $20 a month for 2GB. I'm 10 days into my plan this month and have 1.8GB left, but there is usually wifi everywhere I go so I'm not on the network that much... But that being said, there is usually wifi everywhere you go these days. The only time I really need 3G if for Foreflight and what not. Like I said its up to you what will suit you best, but when it comes to the iPad, it's better to have 3G and not need it than to need it and not have it. Besides, if you have trouble paying $20 a month for 3G, then you might want to rethink if you can really afford a $600 iPad, IMHO. But one word of advice, don't be a fool, wrap your tool... If you do get an iPad, dont even think that not using a case is an option. You will drop it eventually.I share a different view about the 3G. I did not get it because a.)
