Ipad use on overnights?

okay so i have a question for airline pilots. I am thinking about getting an Ipad 2 for use during overnights. How useful do you find them in the hotels versus a laptop? thanks for your time.
 
I am in the same boat but would mainly like to know if the lack of flash causes any issues for people.
 
I find it to be useful and adequate most of the time. When I have to work with spreadsheets, word docs, or be creative in general, I bring my notebook. If I only need to check email, read book and stuff, play Angry Birds, and browse the net, I only take the iPad. I hardly tote the laptop bag anymore.

Take all this with a grain of salt though. While I do spend a lot of time away on overnights, I'm not an airline pilot.
 
If you're a regular in the AIM chat room, you'll be disappointed. I find it good to pass the time between watching the tube and browsing the web.

But I'm not an airline pilot...just a corporate brat.
 
I have an HP Touchpad and have found that the tablets still aren't a replacement for laptops. If all you are going to be doing is email and some web browsing it probably would be ok, but (for me anyway) the on screen keyboard is just too slow to use and the screen real estate just isn't as big as I need.

I use an iPad2+Apple Bluetooth Keyboard and it's largely replaced my laptop. I haven't carried a laptop on the road since about May.

I also have an Airport Express which I use to create a secure wireless hotspot.

No problems at all and I've never really found Flash useful for anything other than Farmville, which I do not play.
 
thank y'all for the info. i was leaning toward the Ipad 2 for a while. sounds like its a good investment for me.

The best part is that you don't have to whip it down when you go through security. Your iPad, that is.
 
Don't you guys think the screen is a little too small???? I'm thinking about getting the Acer Aspire One 11.6 netbook for travel, it's only $299 vs $500 for the 10" Ipad.
 
I have absolutely no problems what so ever with the screen size, and the onscreen keyboard is actually a lot easier to use than I originally thought it would be... Very close to using a real keyboard. I'm actually using mine for the this post.

To the OP, I think the iPad would be great for overnights, especially if you have the Netflix app (it's only $10 a month subscription fee and they have more movies than you could see in a life time).

I have the Acer 11.9" personally I really like it. Guy had an iPad today and I was looking at it, seems relatively largish as well. Really can't go wrong. For the $$ though you get a full-fledged laptop for under $300.

3G!!!!

I had a wifi only and there were times when I needed internet access and didn't have the option of buying 3G access. You can get the 3G and choose to activate the service on demand.

If you commute, the 3G is a lifesaver.

If you don't get the 3G the unit will not have a GPS receiver built in. (or at least it used to be that way). You can get an external receiver but it's nice to have the built in one for the apps that use it. ( foreflight etc)

Yeah but you get what you pay for. Ive had an Acer NetBook before and it was awful.
