Ipad use on overnights?

There is no doubt that the iPad is "nicer" than a netbook, like a BMW is nicer than a Kia. But the Kia will still get you to work and back economically.

I try to find reasons to convince myself that the netbook is better because I can't afford the iPad. :(

I second the SkyFire browser for iPad. It doesn't work for watching livestreaming flash objects, but for watching standard flash videos it's fine.

I'll echo the iPad 2 + Wireless Keyboard. I'm using the same combo and it's well worth not having to dig it out in security every single time.

Mine is the WiFi only version and suits me just fine. If I need internet somewhere without WiFi I just bluetooth tether to my Android phone using PDANet. I haven't personally tried but I've been told you can share the GPS over bluetooth as well if needed. I'm not sure why you need the GPS though when you're flying around in an aircraft with millions of dollars of navigation equipment. Maybe when the screens go blank my iPad will save the day I guess? I dunno. Now if I did a lot of GA flying I'd have the GPS and Foreflight or Wing X for sure.
I use the millions of dollars of equipment to fly airplanes and use the iPad GPS to find where the local watering hole is.

..........But one word of advice, don't be a fool, wrap your tool... If you do get an iPad, dont even think that not using a case is an option. You will drop it eventually.

Bingo.

Get a good case. To pay so much for a great piece of equipment to only have it messed up by a cheap cover is bad.

In addition to all the other covered points that everyone has said - i agree as well. Love having the iPad on the road, so much easier to transport around with everything. And works for all the previous mentioned points.

you guys sold me on the ipad. now to save up the money. appreciate everyone's input.

I love my Ipad 2 and carried it with me on overnights up until recently. While it served me well on overnights for the most part, I found that a laptop is what I needed as my "home away from home".

Mainly, I play games while on overnights to pass the time. Plus, I watch a bunch of movies on Netflix and Hulu. Games can't be played on the Ipad 2 except for the ones you download from the App store. While you can watch movies on the Ipad I have found it much better on a laptop.

At home I use my ipad much more than my laptop. On overnights I have gone back to my laptop. In fact I bought a new high performance laptop for use on overnights. So I guess it all depends on what you want to do. Light internet browsing + reading emails = Ipad. Anything more and I would suggest a laptop.

I would actually reccomend that you eventually have both a good laptop and an Ipad. That way you can switch back and forth depending on your needs for a particular trip. Here at Eagle the Ipad has recently been authorized as a CAT I EFB so I will be taking my Ipad and laptop with me on trips.

As Doug mentioned, you don't have to whip out the Ipad for the smurfs...which is nice.
