I'm stunned!

Re: I\'m stunned!

yea.... cuz people wanna kick his (explicative deleted) rear end.... I'd be the same way!!

I feel bad for that guy at the missouri (was it?) football game that got socked by the football player - he has yet to press charges!! probably didn't even see who hit him!!

that's just wrong!!

Prior and Wood, my friends, Prior and Wood. Remind you of a certain pair of pitchers that hail from your neck of the woods, Doug?

[/ QUOTE ]
The credit belongs to catcher Damian Miller, IMO. The certain pair you refer to haven't been the same since he left, and neither Prior nor Wood were this successful previously.

Re: I\'m stunned!

Phoenix Son, noticed in your profile.....you actually remember Terminal 1 at PHX?

If so....cool.

It wasn't as much the cubs as it was that (expletive deleted) fan that grabbed the OUT

[/ QUOTE ]
I hate to play the Devil's advocate - but, under the rules of the game, the fan did nothing wrong. The ball was outside the field of play and was fair game.

Should he have gotten his happy a** out of the way and let Alou catch it? Would have been nice.. but, no runs scored off of that play.

Want a scapegoat? - blame Alex Gonzalez for muffing what could have been a double-play ball to END THE INNING.

Even if Alou catches that foul ball and Gonzalez still muffs the play - the Marlins STILL score 8 in that inning.

FWIW - the fan in question was escorted out of the stadium with this sweatshirt over his head under a hail of beer cups and other objects.

Pathetic.

The Cubs still have another chance tonight - at home - with a great pitcher on the mound.

But, if the players go out with the attitude that is prevelant here, it WILL be the Marlins who advance.

The Cubs (read: those overpaid glamourboys on the field) blew the game. Not the fan in the stand.

Heck, there are even people that don't believe me when I tell them that "Terminal T" is before "Terminal A" in ATL.

Re: I\'m stunned!

It's not over yet, Cubs can still take it in game 7 tonight!

(Hmm, I really do sound like a Cubs fan, there's always next year.............)

Very true R2F but it is pretty much understood that when its your team going for the ball you get the HELL out of the way. If that had been Jeff Conine going for it then try to catch it. That goober should never have put his arms up.

Wood goes tonight. Cubs win tonight. SCREW THE GOAT AND ITS CURSE.

While I agree that situational awareness is important even at a baseball GAME....watch the re-runs again... he wasn't the only "goober" with his arms up going for the ball - he was just the only one who touched it.

About 40-50 other Chicago goobers had their hands outstretched too.

The fact still remains that fans are blaming a FAN for losing the game when the truth is that the Marlins came alive and took it too the Cubs in that one inning.

I can't stand the Marlins and I hope the Cubs win, but - Jesus folks - get real.

You act like the Cubs have no chance tonight.... so I guess the curse IS real.. in your heads.

Re: I\'m stunned!

I agree the guy had a right to catch the ball. Wonder if he was planted by the Marlins. Yuk that sounds like "Conspiray Theory" doesn't it?

Next game I'm sure the Cubs will not let fans sit in that row!

AHAHAH WHO CARES!!!! CUBS SUCK, YANKEES SUCK, MARLINS SUCK. WHO CARES! go raiders!

uhh...there's only one team in that group that sucks, and they don't play baseball. But they did lose to the Bears!

I think the fan was most likely being a dumbass, but think about it this way: there was a ball flying at him. It may not have been on a trajectory to hit him, but it's hard to judge hard-hit balls. Additionally, Alou got waaay up, and he's a pretty tall guy to begin with. The fan *wasn't* in true field-level seats; he may have thought that Alou had no chance at the ball. Finally, I'll bet that he had no idea Alou was even going for it. He was probably watching it from the time it left the bat. Either way, definately a pretty stupid move, but one that I think a lot of these stone-throwers would have made themselves if they could afford those seats. Like R2F said, there were a LOT of people reaching for the ball.

Re: I\'m stunned!

This is the SECOND time a fan has cost the Cubs an out. Last week in Wrigley a fan knock a foul ball away from Bako behind the plate. Not that I'm complaining.....

I think it is unfair that a lot of people are blaming this guy for the lose. Like someone said earlier, blame Gonzalez. That game would have been a shut out win if he had turned that DP.

If the Marlins win this one, at least World Series tickets will be easier to get here than at Wrigley. Pro Player seats almost twice as many.

Re: I\'m stunned!

Another good point that is being overlooked (even though I'm not a Marlins fan) is that nobody is giving credit where credit is due to the Marlins for stepping up and "hitting it where they weren't" when they needed to last night.

Those weren't dropped balls out there. Those were frozen ropes to the gaps. Great hitting by the Marlins when they needed.

Perhaps Dusty Baker should take some of the rap for keeping Prior in a few pitches too long.

Re: I\'m stunned!

Got to agree with R2F on this. As someone who has been a Cubs fan since the age of eight, I think the Marlins have the stuff this year, and we really don't. Decades of Cub fandom have made me an inveterate pessimist, and I could almost physically feel the whole thing coming unglued when the Marlins scored that first, seemingly harmless, run. The Marlins are a terrific team and I hope they kick the snot out of the damn Yankees.

As for us tonight? Well, I think Bill Paxton said it best: "We're some pretty s**t now man! Game over! Game OVER!"

Re: I\'m stunned!

I am in total disbelief.

I thought Kerry Wood was a shoe in for the W.

ANYONE BUT THE YANKEES!

If I had known the Marlins were going to make it this far I would have paid much more attention to them when I saw them play the first week of the season.

Lets Go Pedro!!!

Re: I\'m stunned!

Okay, I just heard the WORST statement and this is from the governor of Illinois:

"If somone ever convicts this guy of a crime, he won't get a pardon from this governor."

For god's sake. It's a GAME! There were people ready to beat this guy down last night, and he had to have his phone disconnected. Now the news is saying there is some company in Florida ready to give him a vacation or something.

'Course now I have a decision to make. Spend two days with my best friend in New Mexico getting smashed (and maybe checking out MAPD in Farmington) or forking over the $60/ticket to go to the World Series next week.....

Re: I\'m stunned!

"Finally, I'll bet that he had no idea Alou was even going for it."

That seems to be the case, as this press release from the guy suggests: http://www.azcentral.com/sports/diamondbacks/1015fanstatement.html

R2F,
"But, if the players go out with the attitude that is prevelant here, it WILL be the Marlins who advance."

Prophetic, man. Prophetic.
Any lessons that can be learned from this? Would you say that the group of professionals that displayed a more positive at-work attitude were the ones that were successful? I think something can be learned from both teams' examples, about how to be the most productive when there's no room for error.

And now for the off-topic part of my post...

Yeah, I vaguely remember the carpetting being a sorta wine-red color. Although I never got off a plane at Terminal 1, pax had to go down one of those step-ladders-on-a-car contraptions, and then walk through the direct sun to the baggage claim, which was under some large tent. The first time Dad came to Phx (1978) it was 120 degrees just outside that tent - I guess from all the pavement.

I used to ride Hughes Air West and Republic out of Terminal 1. Got an old pic of me in front of one of Hughes' "banana" DC-9s at Terminal 1 with the AZ Air National Guard KC-97s sitting in the background.

Long time ago.

I still remember the location of the old Terminal 1 being where we parked our cargo planes overnight.

Re: I\'m stunned!

you know, EVERYONE is making a biggie outta that kid. But not one post (correct me if wrong) has mentioned that only a few minutes later the Cubs shortstop dropped a routine ball that cost the opportunity to turn a double play and end the inning.

THATS what REALLY cost them. Sorry Cubs fans.
