How important is a college GPA?

no one gives a crap what your GPA is.

got the degree? check the box.

dont have any job experience? well, hope you can show some initiative through your activities outside of school - leadership positions in clubs/organizations, entrepreneurship, etc etc.

so what your saying is there's a chance!

Well why would they have to ask for a gpa.... they ask for the transcripts anyways, they can just read it straight from there. No idea how much weight it's given... nor do I have a clue what mine was :)

Because they can and some airlines like to see how many hoops they can make you jump through....

I believe a good GPA is important to have but what's more important is having high grades in classes pertaining to your major.

My GPA is a little over a 3.0, it's not the greatest and certainly not the worse. I screwed by big time my first two years in college (was 17 when i first attended and school was the last thing on my mind). However, towards Junior and senior year i got nothing below As and Bs, i went from academic probation to President's list. What some employers look for in a transcript is a pattern which shows you've grown up and started taking your responsibilities seriously and improving your grades is one way of showing so.

It is much better to start off bad and turn yourself around towards the end than the opposite way because usually you tend to keep up the discipline and apply it towards everything else in life.

Education was NEVER brought up during my interview. At my level, you are so far removed from school, that your GPA makes little difference. I'd much rather fly with a high school graduate that has experience and stick and rudder skills, vs. high GPA college grad that might be book smart on aviation theory and thinks their aviation university degree will compensate for their lack of experience and skill.

I had a professor at ERAU who flew with Northwest for a pretty long time with around 22,000 hours insist almost every week that GPA does not matter. I agree with him in that intelligence and test-taking skills don't always correlate with flying skills and prompt and accurate decision making... BUT, ERAU has a network where jobs/internships/co-ops are all listed, and each of those positions list their requirements. A lot of the good ones such as Internships with FedEx and many major airlines say you need a 3.0 to be able to apply. Luckily, it seems that most of these are for internships, but some are for job listings too, and it might also reflect on something they might at least look at when you apply. The minimum GPA I've seen listed was 2.5 to be considered for certain positions, but some companies don't list one at all.

In sum, GPA doesn't make you a good or bad pilot, it just comes down to which employers think you should also have good grades to go along with it.

I got a 3.8 and president's/dean's list and i got a 2500 a quarter "scholarship". Don't read too much into the 3.8, I went to an art school for my BA, a zombie can get a 3.8 at an art school.

Zombie art student seeks GRAAAAAAAADES!!!!!

I'm tired of how you guys are bad mouthing GPAs. For God's sake, they are quite significant and important to one's future. . .or have you missed it?

Clueless people. . .all of you!

I'm proud of my outstanding GPA!

Basketweaving 101 - A 4.0
Tennis - All four years All A's 4.0
Ping Pong/Racketball - A 4.0
Cooking 101 A . . .yep, again 4.0!

That darn swimming class dropped my GPA! Had to withdraw from it the first time after I darn near drowned. . .second semester, had to wear that frickin' life vest just to pull a "C" out of the class. . .but hey, I know how to drownproof now, thank you very much!

But I'm proud of my GPA!

I know Delta wants them all the back, even if you transferred, they want them from every HS and College you attended.
erview.

Delta didn't seem to care that I had a 2.22 from The Citadel. All they cared was that I passed the computer, psych, and face interview.

Your GPA from college is as significant as your "permanent record" from high school.

No, they don't. They never asked me for transcripts in 2007 and never asked my dad for them back in 1977. I can't remember if the application asked for GPA but, it is a moot point because I can't even remember what my HS GPA was. I can ballpark it but I have no clue what the actual number was. If the question was there then I probably left it blank.
