How important is a college GPA?

When it comes to applying for a job with an airline do they only care about your college GPA, or do they take into account other things as well?Currently my GPA is 2.4 but I really am trying to work hard and bring it up again. I am part of many extra-cirrcular activities involving aviation wont they consider those as well?

I don't think it's too important. The only place it will EVER come up is in an interview. I've never been out on the flight line discussing college GPAs. 2.4 seems pretty mediocre, I'd try to get it up into the high 2's at least.....laugh and say you had a "good time" in college.

2.4?? Dude, get that up ASAP.

From what I read on JC, most airlines didn't look at your transcript.

Not an airline, but as the manufacturer, I have never cared what anyone's GPA was when I interviewed or hired them.

Your GPA is important if you ever want to pursue a graduate degree, apply for scholarships, join the military or save money on car insurance (good student discounts).

I really am trying. I had a few rough classes that I could have probably worked harder at but I learned from my mistakes and am trying not to make the same mistakes again. The lowest grade I got in one of my aviatin classes so far is B+. Needless to say im doing good in the classes that are important to my career but classes like precalculus and Psychology are not my strong fields.

How about spending a little less time chasing 18 yr old skirt at the WW Mall and a little more time in the books?? ;-)

Might matter for your first job out of school, but after then, it'll be about your work history.

That is important. Learning from your mistakes, indentifying areas of personal weakness and working to make improvements.
I hate Psychology...

save money on car insurance (good student discounts).

The way I looked at it, the savings from the good student discount added up to the point where it was the same as tuition for a 3cr course. With that perspective, you could say that earning good grades saves you money. On a sad note, when I turned 25 the insurance company informed me my rates would decrease due to my age. They also informed me that due to my age, I was no longer eligible for the good student discount. Oh well

I know this observation isn't from an employment perspective, but I hope it helps from a financial perspective.

Am living proof you can have a 2.45 GPA from college and still be one of the few to fly the F-117 stealth. All that BS I used to get in the late '80s in AFROTC about "if you don't have a 3.85 or higher, don't plan on being even getting a UPT slot in the AF," turned out to be bunk.
