Honest question

To be honest I don't fully know how European carriers do things. I know they have ab inito programs and such. Like I said, we are a corporate flight department and fly USA "N" registered airplanes. All of the pilots here are American. Also, we have never ran an ad for a pilot. We simply call our friends and hire them or a friend of a friend. We have found the quality of person and pilot to be higher and attrition has fallen dramatically. We have to invest a lot of money to bring someone out here. Last thing we want is for them to get homesick and leave.

I hope we can be friends. I'd love to move to Russia, my fiance and I are looking into taking Russian classes too, and hope one day to visit moscow/st. petersberg to see some good hockey. Too bad I'm am still a few hours away from my comm right now

I am young and I was the one who said 72000 isnt that bad. But I look at what my dad makes and what I'm used to living like and 72000 wouldnt be fun at all in my 30's.

You may be young, but you are mature and have an open mind to learning and changing your perspective.

That kind of character trait will take you far in life.

It is rare for anyone to admit that they had a change of heart from an earlier post, having reviewed the facts and thinking about things from a different perspective.

I for one, am proud of you.

I know that this is one of the main reasons Doug started this website. To be able to share perspectives so that others may be able to see what things are like in another persons shoes. That is what truly builds a community.

How many of you started flight training with the singular goal of making it to a major airline?

Put me on that list.

Cencal's math is wrong, first off. About 40% from my newhire class are at a legacy, FDX, or major. I believe 8 are still at 9E out of 18 that finished training.

There are many more high end jobs out there than people count on... and believe me, the crappiest job at a legacy hands down beats the nicest job at a regional. There is absolutely no comparison.

That is also why the younger and newer pilots at the legacies will push much harder to take back the outsourced flying in coming contracts.

Personally, corporate or 135 doesn't float my boat whatsoever.... but more power to those guys! I know there's good money out there, but I like my released handed to me, the cat ranchers taking care of the meatwads in the back, and it's just my job to fly the bird.

I wasn't joking about the first line, haha. It's a very different outlook a-brewing on the mainline side. We're getting to the point where more than half the list has been strongly affected by outsourcing.

Look at what AA is wanting as a case in point. I believe you will see similar from CO.

That being said- you know it's true about "cat ranchers!" :)

I know you were serious, and we all appreciate it! (about taking mainline flying back)

I should have been more clear in my response...

I have herded a few cats in my day...( I was a big band leader):insane:

There is something seriously wrong with this industry and the wages we make. Too many people are willing to go to places like Great Lakes or Cape Air because they dangle PIC time infront of them.

Sorry for bumping an old thread. I have Google Alerts set for the term "Cape Air" (sometimes the best way to keep up with what's going on with the company), and this popped up for some reason. Just couldn't let this one go...

I made $25,000 my first year at ExpressJet. I'm coming in just over $47,000 my first year at Cape Air, and I didn't work particularly hard for half the year. Please don't compare us to Lakes. There's no comparison in terms of pay and QOL, sorry.
