Gulfstream Intl Airlines Is Now Silver Airways

yeah it was a dbag comment. I was drinking last night and on jc, not a good combo. Let me take it back a bit... I think a place like silver air is detrimental to the advancement of aviation. that is all.

Why? What routes is Silver flying that were once mainline? One could say ZW is detrimental to the advancement of aviation as MANY routes flown by that airline were once flown on a mainline aircraft...

Do tell....

If/when you find your way into the corporate world, you'll feel differently.

I'm not trying to knock the job you do, nor do I think that you have the same responsibilities as the RJ guys. I realize all the work you have to do while the RJ guys have "people" to do it for them. However they have other tasks that you may not have to deal with. I still stand by what I said.

Like what? I ask because I have ZERO airline experience.

I also have zero airline experience, but from what I can tell from my friends who fly for airlines, a lot of the "other tasks" are things like "trying not to go postal" or "attempting not to strangle incompetent middle managers/station agents"...the ineffables...

Ineffable, what a great word.

Coming from a 91/135 corporate background, I'm freaking stoked about how much less I have to do.

Performance numbers? Done
Weight and balance? Done
Pax load and manifest? Done
Weather? Done
Flight plan? Done
Passengers? F-em Done
50% pay cut? Done . . . oh wait, crap.

Drinking heavily and JC are a great combo, son! :)

SILVER AIRWAYS IS STILL GULFSTREAM (LIPSTICK ON A PIG)

I was at one time a real big supporter of this company, I even defended this place against detractors. But I was sadly, mistaken. I have witnessed 1 person get fired for reporting cheating (which they categorized as this person lying) so I hope she does what Kenny Edwards did as well as a few others and file under the whistle blower act- 2 of my good buddies that started with me get canned by a guy who told him they were both not going to make it before they even set foot in the sim for thier first sim session and now......me.

So this is what happened. when we first started in the CPT I struggled because my BAI INST skills were rusty. On top of that, my grandfather died. I was warned no to go back home to attend by a certain pilot who I will not mention because I fear they will retaliate on him. He told me this company has a reputation of firing peole for going home for funerals, sick love ones, etc.

I talk with the chief pilot, Chris Eason who warns me also in so many words going home would not be wise. I went anyway on a company approved leave. While at home I went to Sporty's academy and got my issues with BAI INST ILS fixed. THANKS SPORTY'S!!

I then returned and was RECOMMENDED to continue and put up for stage check. WHile doing the stage, the sim broke. I was told i would have to go to Orlando. Lilly then tells me she wanted to gage my progress on the emergency action items and limitations since while I was gone I didn't study because of the funeral. She said it would be a mock oral then said if I failed, I would be sent home. I said this is not how we do things and we don't do mock orals, this is not sanctioned by the company. She told me I had to know what my priorities are. (a direct jab at my funeral leave.)

So we start this thing and I was answering her questions before she completed asking them. She then went into the sys / om vol 1 and told me I had to know this 100%. When of course, I didn't, she said I would have to meet with the chief pilot.
During this whole time, a Captain that taught the sys class that day sat in. He then lectures me by saying that I know you don't know me, but I know you and heard about your going home. You proved to us we don't have first place in your life, we expect you to give us first place and nothing is to interfere with that. He says because of my actions I would be given an oppurtunity to pursue other endeavors.

The next day I meet with the cheif pilot who gives the choice to resign or be terminated. I ask on what grounds? He tells me I struggled all through training. I asked him for examples and he got silent. I said Chris let's be straight. I told him what the captain told me, he simply shrugs, acknowledged it and says what are you going to do?
I chose to resign. The kicker? When I asked about going home he says once you resign, we don't provide transport home.
So I go back to the hotel room, pack my gear, and jumpseat home. I will mail them thier stuff later.

I am, sadly, not the only one who went through this. We had a guy in SAAB upgrade whose uncle died and while he was home, his mom gets seriously ill. He takes FMLA and when he returns, he is banned from the SAAB upgrade class.
He is sent back to the 1900 and the company is actively seeking his termination. These people have no ethics, empathy or morals. I do not wish to work for a company that treats it's employees like this then tells new hires when folks don't make it some kind of white washed lie. Like the girl who supposedly washed during the oral, it wasn't that she washed, they were ****ed she reported cheating. Lilly told her and all of us she would be fired right before our last day of sys. They washed her within the first 15 minutes of the oral.
Just so you know, that place I thought had changed, but it's still the same old gulfstream.

You never, EVER, want to work for a company that expects you to put work before family matters. It never ends well, trust me. You don't just quit these jobs, you go back and slash some tires.

Having both a 121 and 135/91 background, I think both jobs are challenging and that most pilots deserve better compensation/QOL than they currently have. That being said, I do not think an RJ driver should make as much as a CL-65 corporate variant. They certainly deserve more, but a corporate version of that aircraft is considered a "large-cabin" business jet, which is probably flying longer stage lengths/international trips.

I'm certainly not saying flying an RJ is a cakewalk (I've flown my share of 7-leg, 16 hour days), but the pay comparison isn't there.

As far as having most "stuff" done for you in 121 - that's partially true. However, to have the discipline to check someone else's work 5-7 times a day is no easy feat. I can't tell you how many times a well-intended dispatcher/ramper/fellow pilot makes an error and it lies squarely on your shoulders to catch it. No alternates, not enough fuel, wrong W&B, expired TAFs, NOTAM oversight, etc. I'm sure there are 135/91 operations that conduct 5-leg days, but most of the BusAv flying that I have witnessed/been part of consists of 2-3 flights a day at most where you have total control over fuel/flight plans. Land at destination, put the plane to bed, and sit. The planning aspect is certainly more involved, but the cumulative fatigue isn't there (in my opinion). I feel more alert on a London run than I did flying 5-7 approaches in winter ops.

Again, both jobs have a lot of challenge. The sheer lack of airport familiarity in 135/91 is something I never expected to be so challenging. Just trying to describe the difference between the two.
