Government mandated minium pay

Now that things have gotten to the point where the government has to introduce H.R. 3371, what is the thought on the government mandating a minimum pay for 121 operators? My line of thought is this; the FAA mandates that pilots pass specific standards per the PTS. One can't reasonably be expected to pass these requirements without spending a lot of money. Knowing this, doesn't the government have an obligation to mandate a reasonable pay to those that have completed said training?

nope. don't like the pay, don't take the job.

Bingo.

I'll add to that: Going to work for a company is a YES vote for their current contract/pay/work rules. The person with the greatest control over how much you will be compensated is you.

Why would this be a bad thing?

($10's says the next person to respond to this in a negative is a Conservative)

Why will pay go up with raised minimums?

-Fewer people will start training

What will happen if you mandate a minimum pay (presumably higher than it currently is, or else why would you mandate one)?

-More people will start training

Who cares if more people start training. If the pay is regulated you can not get hosed on it. This will hopefully lead to a QoL increase mandate also. The most effective union in the US of A would be the federal government.

Let the flame-fest begin.

I think those with the desire and the means to afford training will go through with it. As has been said here before, Shiny Jet Syndrome.

P.S. I'm one of em'.

"Mandated minimum pay is $32,000"

First year pay: $32,000
Second year pay: $32,000
Third year pay: $32,000
Fourth year pay: $32,000
Fifth year pay: $32,000

That's what happens when you mandate minimum pay AND have an excess of pilots.

As long as their are applications on their desks pay will be pressured down as much as possible.

Don't worry about your pay. After a couple more years with the current administration we will all be making a million dollars a year.

What is another carrot management can wave over a pilots head? Upgrade. Look at all the people that went to lakes for 14 hr. just for quick PIC turbine time. Even though this industry is sinking towards the bottom of the Atlantic like the Titanic everyone is still trying to climb to the bow thinking that it will be above water by the time they get there. Pilots are willing to do just about anything for the quick PIC turbine time and upgrade that management will just have that to abuse once the pilot mills start running dry.

Well, I am a Conservative and I believe this is a bad idea...however I also believe the RLA is a bad idea. If you're going to have an RLA that prevents the pilot groups from having any power to negotiate their wages, then the government needs to step in and do something to protect us. I'd much rather have the RLA abolished though.

Why should airline pilot's get a minimum pay, because "the FAA mandates that pilots pass specific standards per the PTS"? Do truck drivers not pass a specified government test? Do doctors, lawyers, and teachers not pass a government specified test? Do TSA employee's not have to pass a government test? So should they also get a different minimum pay level?

Why should airline pilots be the only ones who get a "minimum" pay for the training they had to do. It sets a terrible precedent, that would be moved to nearly every occupation and send costs of many, many things sky high.

I am all for it, some of these regional jobs are paying people less than that of a garbage man. It is getting to the point where it is absurd. Worst of all, the heads of these companies are not taking pay cuts.
