Spent a couple of days working out of here. Still remember when this was the largest F-4 Phantom base in the USAF. Selected in the first BRAC (Base Realignment and Closure) round in 1988. George AFB shut down on 1 December 1992. Currently SoCal Logistics airport, it’s the site for mostly aircraft storage, repair and scrapping, with many aircraft from many airlines, mostly Fedex, SWA, and Delta, in attendance. A few movies filmed there such as the opening of Face Off.

The base side of the airfield is an abandoned ghost town mostly, kind of creepy to walk around as the sun is setting...

Photos by me below:

Air Defense Alert Facility, two hangars on each side of a two-story alert building in the center that contains full living facilities, etc. Much like a fire station but with armed fighter jets. I remember when the California Air Guard out of Fresno used to man this facility with 4 F-16A/ADF fighters on 24/7 alert back in the day,

The only remaining static display aircraft at VCV, F-4C 63-7519, complete with 2 x (inert) AGM-78 Standard ARM missiles. Back in the day, on the HQ circle with the Wing building was, there was an C-100F Super Sabre, and F-105G Thunderchief, and an F-104 Starfighter also on display, but these were moved to other locations when the base closed, with only the F-4C being left behind.
