Furlough Estimates

"Im going to need a couple more weeks off after working that 3! day. "

I had about three weeks off for vacation which is probably going to become five if not six depending on next week.

Can’t say I’ve missed it at all.

I gotta go through this “OMG UR A DISEASED PARIAH”-level of decontamination when I come home so its nice not having to deal with it.

I thought you were king bachelor.

Also say what you will about GK, he has turned the company into a financial powerhouse and he hates to lose. He is approaching retirement and the 50th anniversary of the company. I think that he would be winding down his role after that and I also like to think that him going out with employees furloughed would be him admitting that his life’s work was a failure. And yes I realize that my line of thinking here is really pie in the sky stuff but what else is there to do at this point.

Make no mistake, Gary is a snake and nothing but a bean counter. He’s been riding the coattails of what Herb built for years, and not even doing a very good job of that. He‘ll lie to your face and stab you in the back at the first available opportunity.

I hear a lot of guys saying this, and I don't really get it. I have been and currently am flying through all hot spots in Asia, and even had several days in the worst of hot spots, the US.

I keep my hands clean, do my best to never touch my face, wear a mask, and stay away from the general public. When I come home, my wife hugs me and we go on with our life. At no point did locking myself away in a basement ever come into consideration for my wife (a nurse and paramedic), or myself.

I could see it if someone with a compromised immune system lived in the house, but otherwise I don't get it. I guess I'm lucky to have a cool wife that doesn't try to guilt trip me into locking myself away for two weeks.

I can’t think of anything worse than me passing this on to my wife and kids unknowingly. So for me, I’d rather keep my distance until I get some time off.

Ok. But is your wife going outside at all? If she goes to the store (arguably a lot worse than an airline cockpit), does she stay away from everyone for a few days?

Also, Flight Attendents are at way more risk of becoming infected. How often are they isolating from their families in trailers or hotel rooms? Maybe they are, but it just seems like it's pilots that I hear doing this.

I've been thinking of this. I have a small home and really no way to avoid the family between trips. So what exactly are you doing to protect them when you come home?

Some of our Captains are parking their RVs in the driveway and staying there, or they have an air conditioned shop, or a vacation home. I got none of that stuff. Not even a van, down by the river.

What a lot of the medical people are doing is changing before going home then staying away from everyone till they have showered and changed a second time.
If I was still flying (took a 50 hpm leave) I'd bring sweats/sneakers in a separate plastic bag.. Change in a restroom. Get home keep distance till showered and changed a second time. After this it's a matter of washing your hands all the time and being careful with sneezes, coughs and sniffles. Sleep on the couch/floor/cot. It isn't perfect, but, better than nothing.
