Furlough Estimates

Profact. I have zero people on my ignore list. Instead, I apply my own standard. I have a certain angle of eye roll while formulating a response to @Cherokee_Cruiser before I nope out.

An ignore list is kind of pointless anyways. If someone doesn’t possess the self control to simply not reply to something someone writes that they dislike or don’t agree with, or to merely scroll past it, they’ve got bigger problems. There’s dumb stuff written here encompassing a wide spectrum of subjects and opinions, no one has a gun to their head being forced to respond. (Cue the “someone is wrong on the internet” meme). It’s all ascii characters...... :)

5000 out of 14,000. If it goes down that far, America’s got bigger problems than waiting for a (never-going-to-come-in-that-situation) recall.
I hope you aren't worried or else I got bigger issues to worry about

I used to agree with this 100%. But then I figured the ignore list was kind of like saving shows on the DVR. The posters I put on ignore are the ads while I skip to the good stuff. Works out perfectly

Either you're trolling in a thread about something that really shouldn't have trolls in it or you really need to talk to somebody professionally. This is some serious stuff people are potentially facing and there is absolutely nothing wrong with getting some help with dealing with the unknown.

Therapy is available, even for people stuck in the garlic bread (and who are we kidding... it's going to be sourdough) line.

Was going to send as a pm... but probably a good reminder for people who aren't being so public about their fears too.

Thanks for letting me know how you feel. It really means a lot to me...

When did this become FlightInfo? It’s not. Chill.

You’re under a lot of pressure, guess what, YOU’VE GOT COMPANY because we all are and you’re not special nor are any of us, so just chill and we’ll all get through this.

If humping the question of furlough/industry strife is starting to chafe, stop humping.

This was going on long before the 'Rona. I love how its a one way street though. I really do.

Well, lets be raitonal adults. You called him fat, did he call you skinny? Are you skinny? I don’t know. Then you blocked him and then continued to talk smack.

Under normal circumstances I’d have issued a warning but since “people be corona crazy” I’ve loosened up my stranglehold on forum decorum because people need to let off some steam.

Personally, I didn’t know you two even had interactions.

If you feel I’ve been unfair, make your case, I’m all ears! :)

One day this whole thing is going to end and you might need some of the people you’re lashing out at. Crap man, even feel the heat and we ain’t got no quarrel.

I just spent 4 hours or so on the bike. Was a beautiful day. I can see you're trollin' but that's fine with me. You have eyes and can read and you wont have to look far. I just made pizza. So now I'm gonna eat it.

If you want to take sides it's on you.

I’m on the side of JC and maintaining a good community for my people.

I didn’t have children for a reason and I sincerely hate having to pull people off one another and then get treated like a step dad when I do!

Just be cool man. Sure, ATC might have yelled at you and the flight attendant brought you a Diet Coke when you wanted a Fresca, but you still gotta land the plane without crashing.

Good talk. Good talk. If you want me to cut and paste to illustrate an issue I'd be happy to. Buuuuuut. Pretty sure I'd do it over PM. I'm guessing that will not make for fun trollin' and you'll no longer be interested.

Not sure where they get their koolaid from but it's very strong for that one. I dispise them.

Also I'm firmly in the lower 2500 on the SJI list. So I'm fully expecting UNA and a 20/hr pay cut come July 1st, not to mention no pay past Dec 31st 2020. It's going to be ugly for SJI when those of us that got pushed to the streets come back.

I'm curious as to why you say the bolded?

Nobody knows at this point, but for sure this is a bad time to go out and buy a boat
That may not be a bad idea, considering the time to flow will be really long, if at all

I was never married to the idea of flow; at worst, it allowed me to see steady gains in relative seniority which is definitely worth something. COVID has me divorced from the idea that it'd even be worth flowing. I'd be fortunate to work for just about any major carrier; I'm not an AA-or-bust type of guy. The only reason I'm considering stay put is how close I am to upgrading; I could be getting TPIC while living in base. The timeline on that, however, is the great unknown? 6 months? 12 months? 24 months? Longer? ACMI is appealing, particularly if I'm stuck as a regional FO for more than a few years.

Out of the frying pan and into the fire. Its amazing how fast we went from no bad choices to no good choices. In the blink of an eye...

For those considering freight with a lot of seniority at a regional I'd be hesitant to leave. Unless your regional was going away altogether. A friend who runs freight via trucks says that he is down over 40%. They have thousands furloughed. It may be good for now but eventually the economic consequences of what we have done will come home to roost. I'd be careful about being at the bottom of the seniority list at a freight operator.

Valid point and I appreciate you bringing it up. That's why, if I can pull it off, I could maybe get an extended leave of absence to go fly for Atlas so at least I'm still sitting on a seniority number at my regional carrier.

Moving to the bottom of any seniority list can be very scary right now but if you aren't giving up much seniority or worry about your 135/121 regional from existing, the heavy time and type rating could be big when the hiring gates open again and everything is 10x more competitive than it once was. Unless you're giving up TPIC time then you have to out weigh which is more important. I'd stay with TPIC if that's your current position.

No TPIC for now.... but I'm so, so close. Close doesn't mean anything though if there's no movement for years. That's why I'm trying to push my class date until the fall to see how things are recovering. We're trending in the right direction, but if we're going to plateau at 50-60% YOY passenger numbers late summer into fall, I'm probably better off bailing.

I don't know who you talked to, but Atlas doesn't suck. In fact if I move on from Atlas, I will be the envy of every cockpit I fly in. There is no job that is as fun as Atlas, now the management team sucks and either doesn't care or doesn't understand what pilots want.
To your point, everyone I know at Atlas (mostly) loves their job. It's management. The fact that you guys are going to have a new contract, through negotiations or court order, is both exciting and terrifying (mostly the latter) given the history of contract negotiations. God speed.

When it comes to emergency savings, how much do you all have? 6 months? 12?

Don't forget to factor in health care of you don't have an SO who works.

I don’t pretend to know, that’s far out of my wheelhouse! :)

I have no answers.

I am starting to have my doubts as whether or not you're an airline Captain at this point.

Hurrrrr, MY MONEY, TAXES, Hurrrrrrr HAVE I SHOWED YOU PICTURES OF MY GIRLFRIEND???

I'm curious as to why you say the bolded?

They have always has fairly good company/pilot relations. This would add 2500 people with lots of time left that would be less likely to "help" the company out at all. Future negotiations would not be a walk in the park.

Pretty much everyone here would be tripping over themselves to help @mikecweb if he needed it. Can you say the same for yourself? Any idea why that might be?

A bunch of pilots I don't know nor have I met on a message board have opinions. Oh boy. Man this is earth shattering. Since I'm not a socially retarded POS I actually have friends and family that are my support network. People I can rely on. Not some avatar with a terrible grasp of: economics, infectious diseases and how to interact with other people in real life.

Do you guys actually read the drivel you post? Why would I care what a single one of your opinions are? And what kind of help are you even talking about? 40% unemployment, aviation hit the hardest. What kind of help? Post a funny meme for the lols? 20% or more haircut at the majors and what are you all going to do? Post some thoughtful advice on how we are all in this together. Send me a video of you cute dog as a cheer up item? Tell me, how are you not going to help me, but how are you going to help anyone in this coming catastrophe? How could anyone here do anything meaningful for someone that is about to lose their livelihood?

I borrowed a bike bag from a guy who manages one of the largest friend warehouses in Kent. I repeated what he told me about the freight business as a word of caution to try and help. Actual real help on making a decision that could have years of impact on someones career. Not my expert pilot analysis of the freight world but someone who actually manages furloughed employees take on the current state of freight and its future, as an industry insider. That seems valuable to me but I'm just a guy that borrowed a bike bag so I could go someplace fun.
