They identified X positions to fill. All the pilots below X go into an unassigned position within their base. No obligation to the company and paid at 717 FO rates.
I could see them furloughing the 300 or so new hire pilots who haven't completed OE yet, but I don't know about furloughing the almost 3000 identified into today's snapshot. The training churn that is going to be generated in this displacement bid is going to be eye-watering. The union said a single 350/777 CA displacement would cost the company between $280,000 to $350,000, and as much as $850,000 depending on how the cards fall. But I think the company doesn't view training as a cost in the equation, just a manning/timing variable so who knows.
