We (your take/my take) don’t know enough yet. My feeling is just that, a feeling. Everyone under my roof had covid. Ive talked to a lot of people in the last month that have gone through the same thing with no test. Again, just my feelings.

Dude, did you even read that article you linked?

and yes, we should definitely base public health decisions with potentially millions of lives on the line on your feeling, not the best data that public health experts can come up with.

“Some government officials have suggested providing those who test positive with a get-out-of-jail-free card – an “immunity passport” to a normal life. However, additional critical information is still required before assuming that antibody tests can safely predict protection from future infections, the researchers caution.”

They identified X positions to fill. All the pilots below X go into an unassigned position within their base. No obligation to the company and paid at 717 FO rates.

I could see them furloughing the 300 or so new hire pilots who haven't completed OE yet, but I don't know about furloughing the almost 3000 identified into today's snapshot. The training churn that is going to be generated in this displacement bid is going to be eye-watering. The union said a single 350/777 CA displacement would cost the company between $280,000 to $350,000, and as much as $850,000 depending on how the cards fall. But I think the company doesn't view training as a cost in the equation, just a manning/timing variable so who knows.

Perhaps the company and union will come together and offer a "waiting for training" guarantee that will keep the people on the payroll but not furloughed?

I saw that memo and the cost breakdown. Is the company still not offering early outs?

The union has said it has approached the company with multiple cost savings measures over the past few months, eager to find some sort of creative and mutually beneficial agreements. But the company continues to shrug the union off. The company is planning to offer a company-wide early out but most are skeptical that it will be sweet enough for any pilot to take.

All but 30 A220 FOs are in the bottom 2500 of the seniority list. Thats the only fleet that has maintained (actually increased) its schedule in all this. This plus the loss of LCAs and training department folks should make a massive furlough tough since it would effectively ground that fleet.
