Great, so let’s all wear goggles now, too.
I'm tellin you right now the last thing I want as a CA is some bull*t fight in the cabin over mask wearership that is streaming on Facebook Live. Give me both engines out over the Hudson any day.
People are screaming about jobs and the demise of the airline industry. Well, you’re not going to get butts in seats until those butts feel safe, and gas is cheap. Plain and simple.
So now you claim to have the level and diversity of experience to successfully manage a 1549 scenario? Hindsight is beautiful—the most beautiful, actually.
The only reason people don’t feel safe is because you insist on sowing panic.
Ummmm... have you reread your post in this thread alone or your post on FB???
You and @Yakob are all about the panic/worst-case scenario.
This is all caused by virus panic. Yakob and I would have no furlough or economic doom to talk about were it not for you virus doomers.
I'm a virus doomer now??? Interesting! Checks my FB feed and my JC post. Nope, I haven't even posted about anything directly related to COVID-19. Like ever, I believe.
There are plenty of reactions available to us other than "dismissive" or "hysterical". The eye, a network of semi-permeable mucous membranes, is a potential vector for viral infection. This has been known for over a century. Treating it like a farcical hoax until it surfaces like some horrible eldritch truth is the surest way to cause an eventual panic, as we have seen time and time again since this whole mess started.
I've never been on the side that it's a hoax, but I'm definitely not a virus doomer. Especially as more data comes out. But I typically reserve those opinions to myself because it's becoming increasingly political now and we are nearly past the point of no return now.
I don't think we can talk our ways out of this one. We've spooked too many people, worldwide. Vaccine is probably what our industry needs to return to normal. Hence why I think 2-3 years to recover.
I mean it was nice dreaming of more flying people for Christmas. But now the media is prepping the people for a very DEADLY winter/flu season and almost trying to force lockdowns again. I mean an article yesterday said they were having huge outbreaks in China again? 20 new cases is a big outbreak? And where is China's testing data?
Sure it will and how long did that 08 recession, the great recession!!!, take to recover from? As far as discretionary income vacationers and business travellers rebounding? That was a lot better than what people were saying going into it. So again I think 3 years, vaccine, and we are a lot better economical position as well. Not saying it's 2019 pax levels.A vaccine won't mean a return to normal economic activity. It will be just the START of a return. It will still take years after that. The depression will be severe, and it will ripple through time for a long while.

Smallpox is also the only virus we have eradicated fully. Ever. Things like polio still exist in small pockets of the world. And we all know a good few eradicated from our shores diseases are back due to some • morons. If we had a safe effective vaccine tomorrow a quarter of the population would refuse it because autism. We had an effective smallpox vaccination in 1796. It became required in the US in the 1800's, and it still took us 200 years to eradicate smallpox. Even if we do find an effective vaccination for Covid - my best guess is it will take 5 years to manufacture and distribute enough of it to make any difference.
In the meantime, we are probably going to end up dealing with Covid the same way smallpox was dealt with - frequent, strict quarantines. There's a lot of similarities between the epidemics - highly contagious, up to 14 day incubation, respiratory transmission, etc. Unless or until some treatment is found that improves the case fatality rate by an order of magnitude, we won't have any better options.
Welllllll, sort of. "Eradicated" is such an absolute word. Properly interpreted, it would take things out of play for fun and bio-warfare. So let's be a little less liberal in our use of that particular word.Smallpox is also the only virus we have eradicated fully. Ever. Things like polio still exist in small pockets of the world. Remdisivir seems to work really well based upon the studies done on it. Especially if it's used early.
There's a bit of an issue with making it fast enough, but why are we not pointing to that and saying here we go, we have an effective drug, now let's all quite losing our damn minds?
Honestly with the devastation that could cause, someone should bomb both the US and Russian locations where it's held. Like maybe a 3rd party country. Nuke it from orbit. I'd rather see actual nukes fly than smallpox become wild again. At least with the nukes it'd stop shortly after it started and only a few hundred million would be dead.Welllllll, sort of.
