hopefully Frontier can get a similar deal to save some jobs!

Delta VEOP (early retirements) rescind window closes at midnight. Rumor so far is a little under 300 of the 2234 guys have rescinded. Still means 1700+ guys leaving September 1 with the rest to follow next year + normal scheduled retirements as well.

A rescind window? Ya'll ran a voluntary early out program, got a voluntary award, but now there is a rescind period and guys are cancelling their VEOP award? Oh Delta.

The rescission window is regulatory. I don’t know the law, but there was no way around it. The eligible population was huge. There were bound to be people who put in for it just to see if their awarded retirement date matched their desires.

Spirit numbers are out and it’s 117 furloughed and 58 downgrades. Down from 600 that’s a great job by our union and those who took EIL/VIL.

Kudos to you guys for getting that number way down! I feel for the 117 though, not an easy situation to be in. Was offering these leaves part of your contractual furlough mitigation strategies, or is it possible other strategies can be used to help reduce that 117 number, hopefully to zero?

I'm breaking my Scrubs Memes only response rule for a minute because despite the absolutely stupid way you asked the question, and the absolutely ignorant tone you took to try to take the cheap shot, there are probably some people that were wondering the same thing, but in a normal, not my-penis-is-small-so-I've-got-to-dance-around-and-be-a-clown-to-make-up-for-it kind of way.

The Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) and the Older Worked Benefit Protection Act (OWBPA) requires a whole bunch of stuff. Two of those things are that any early retirement offer must be open for a minimum of 45 days, and that anybody who signs up for such an offer, will have 7 days from the date they sign (not the end of the 45 day window) to rescind their signature.

One interesting thing that comes out of the ADEA is that "age" is a federally protected class, but "seniority" isn't. That means that when offering early outs, you can't just offer it to a certain number of pilots by seniority because it is possible that there is a more junior pilot who it wouldn't be offered to, but who is older than a pilot who it was offered to.

Hmm. Ok appreciate the clarification.

We had a early out program and didn’t follow the guidelines you just wrote. While it was open for any pilot to bid, it sure wasn’t open for 45 days. Nor was there an option to rescind your early out. Those who took the early out it was a lump sum cash option, Oct 1 is their last day. They mixed the bid for early outs, retirement incentive leaves, and extended incentive leaves (50 hrs pay) as one big bid. The whole bid was open to every pilot.

The retirement incentive leave guys also go out on Oct 1. They get 2 yrs of pay at 50 hrs/month (plus vacation pay). But at the end of 2 years, they retire. No coming back.

EOP1 was early out program, lump sum cash option. They get 20 hrs pay per year of service to just punch out on Oct 1. So as you can imagine, guys with less than 1 yr or so with more than 30 yrs would take it. Or anyone who wants a bunch of cash upfront if they have long years of service.

But it’s binding, no take backs. EOP1s punch out Oct 1. REILs also go on paper Oct 1, but they get paid 2 yrs worth. At the end of which, they’re gone.

Those are great numbers for sure, but I can't help to think that another 25-50 EIL's (or some small number) would have brought that number to zero. I wanted an EIL but being a junior CA I couldn't get one. And now I'm facing a base change or a downgrade, as i'm 63 from the bottom of our CA list. Funny thing is that the base that will keep me looking out the left window is FLL (most likely), and had I been based there for the EIL bid I would have gotten the 8mo EIL.

I would have been senior enough in Liquordale to have the super sized leave too. Oh well.

The voluntary early retirement and voluntary separation notification window for the SJI non pilots group employees, was open for 40 days and 7 days to rescind.

I'm not sure why we couldn't have offered the eil's by the master seniority list, since they are going to furlough that way why not have offered the eil's that way? It would have eliminated the situation you and many others were/are in where people junior to you got the eil of your choice and you didn't.
