Furlough Estimates

So after the VEOP by SJI, we still have around 300 a year retiring (down from 700) for the next 3 years. Assuming no one backs out, so the number can change a little bit. Not bad.

Here's the problem/issue........ if you were to combine 9/11 and the recession of 2008.......what is happening right now is far, far worse, will last much longer, and will effect the carriers in ways.. .....large and small than we have never previously experienced or seen. I am just trying to get folks to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. As the Federal monies and agreements whittle down......things are going to get interesting......very interesting. I sincerely wish the best for everyone here. Gerry
Sorry been taking a break from the internet with all my free time. Yea, I’m a ULCC Captain. My truck is 16 years old and it’s just about to the point where there is more rust than paint, my wife’s car is worth even less than that and my mortgage is just barely north of 10 percent of my take home income. Not counting my wife’s income as an RN, small amount of MLM income and Twitch streaming. You’re singing to the choir on the you need to be financially prepared for the end of the world speech with me. Hope all is well with you.

Most RN's I know are pulling like $90-110k.

They work three day 12 hr shifts a week at their main job and then work PRN two to three days a week at another job. Or pull OT at their main job. At my old job PRN for nurses paid $55 an hour.

Not sure if that is an option for your wife/family or not.

Maybe I wasn’t clear, my fault. Aloft quoted me for painting too rosy of a picture. Personally, I’ve been preparing for this for 10 years. If my airlines’ furlough plans go through I’ll be downgraded. But I’ll be good. I’ll also be pushing for my union to pick up the tab on COBRA benefits and take out my fair share of my check for those that are shown the door and hopefully some sort of go fund me or whatever will be set up to help cover some bills for those guys that I’d be happy to contribute to monthly until this passes. TLDR I’m a cheap ass.

That's definitely awesome. Just curious, no health bennies through your wife's job? My wife worked at an ER when I was at skywest, and her insurance was good enough to easily justify switching over.

I'm sure you guys have that all figured out, I was just curious about staying on COBRA if she has that available.

Unless my airline dissolves which I’m not saying isn’t a possibility I’ll probably just stick with that. I didn’t receive a WARN.

I think he’s saying he would contribute to a fund that would pay COBRA for those who are furloughed.

On our COBRA assessment ballot I think it said if a furloughed pilot was eligible for other healthcare coverage (ex. through a spouse) they had to take it, but if the other coverage was more expensive than the airline premiums the pilot would be reimbursed the difference.

Who wants to fly for free :ooh:

Who wants to fly for free :ooh:

What the early 1990s “Will fly for food” t-shirts created....

It's not just ATPs. Piedmont did this in January. Granted, it was before we knew of the pandemic. But there is no reason this should still be online:

It's gonna be a tad more than 3 yrs. Just a tad.......
