Fully autonomous stealth fighter demonstration in Charleston today

There's new info! Someone told a friend of mine that he read a post on Reddit claiming it was shot down, the proverbial "Golden Bullet". Something about a 50BMG and it was over land owned by white supremacists and used for training militia. Take it all with a grain a salt.

I'll give you credit, that right there is almost funny.

It was meant to be funny, the sad thing is a lot of folks will consider it gospel. I also read something else about someone who heard something from some one who knows someone close to the situation that the pilot was tasked with attacking Charlotte but they got cold feet and punched out. Ain't the internet grand!?

Yeah, you could have just stuck with your last post...

I talked to a friend who is part of the SAR team there. They had been asked to help and the info he had was that the military had nothing more than a trail of radar pings heading in a constant direction after the pilot ejected, but had no idea if the plane had gone down (there were no signs of it near the end of the radar trail) or had kept flying.
Had this been a civvy plane with a passed out crew, there would have been a military bird to surveil and escort the dead bird to its crash site. Dr. Military, heal thyself!

With no conspiracy theories intended, I just hope that if/when we go toe-to-toe with the Red Chinese, we don't end up getting a lesson in reality similar to how the Russians got educated in Ukraine.

If the pilot had still been in the aircraft and incapacitated, the wingman would follow. However once the pilot ejects, the wingman is going to stick with the pilot in their parachute. In most ejections, the jet crashes not too far away. At best, the wingman would note the general heading and altitude the plane took post-ejection; and report that, while staying with the downed pilot in their parachute.

Well, yeah. I get that. That's SOP. But, what? The military has only two aircraft??

I’m sure the wingman called in a mayday to ATC, if no mil aircraft were airborne in the immediate area and the F-35 was not easily tracked for whatever reason, even alert jets launched from a distant base would’ve not had an easy time making an intercept before the jet crashed.

Yes. At that particular place at that particular time the military only had two aircraft, for whatever reason one of the pilots punched out. Can you imagine seeing your wingmate following your jet as you float in a parachute? In no uncertain words what do you think is more valuable?

Check for a damaged "GoPro"

Maybe he was filming a "ghost ride the whip" video.
Image just released of the Air Force pilot right before he bailed out because it was running a teensy bit rough

Uh... Not sure why the attitude. SOP means standard operating procedure. Your wingman always stays with you. That's precisely what I meant by SOP. You don't have to be miffed with me while agreeing with me.

Speaking from experience?

Not personal experience fortunately. My point was just that the mere act of ejecting, or losing an aircraft in general, isn't some sort of automatic dismissal. Plenty of people have ejected from aircraft through no fault of their own. There is an automatic aviator evaluation board that occurs after loss of aircraft, or major damage. Those boards generally do a good job of evaluating the scenario, as well as the whole person standing in front of the long table. The vast majority of folks I saw get booted from Naval Aviation never even had a mishap. We try to weed out those who aren't cutting it well before something bad happens, and mostly do a good job of that.

Does someone who ejects have to go into an aircraft that’s doesn’t have an ejection seat? Like is spinal compression bad enough that a second ejection would be no bueno?

Also, do you get to keep the seat or get a tie from Martin Baker?

Always wondered :D

I'm not miffed, is that a naval term? In case you haven't noticed some folks these days go into conniptions about misgendering, misuse of pronouns and if they left on Friday as Dave and come back on Monday as Danielle you better keep that straight or it might cost you your job. I chose wingmate rather than wingman because I don't want to assume anyones gender.
