Flying for free...Don't do it.

Speaking of flying for free.... there's an unpaid internship in a Part 91 KA200 in Iowa listed on CT350.... good times!

Not only is it a 'unpaid internship' but they wanted you to sign a contract for 6 months to cover their training costs and be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Today was the day I was going to cancel my membership, (especially after that 'job' popped up) but they beat me to it and renewed me for another month. (probably @ 12:01 am)

Looking back at CT350 again... the 'job' disappeared. They must have listened to you CJ.

Just because you've got a college education doesn't mean you're not stupid.

It's one thing to do it for credit, as part of an internship program. But unless it's a volunteer organization, I think that working for free is just plain stupid.

I have never done it and I never will. When I was 19 years old, I was offered an unpaid internship at a very prestigious advertising agency. They told me it was quite an honor to be offered the position.

I told them, well, honor doesn't pay my tuition so I'm going to have to decline. I told my dad what I did, and I figured he was going to be pissed at me.

Know what he told me? He told me he was proud of me for learning at a young age that if you're going to work for someone, you need to get paid for it.

Tony, I see your point, but in this economy you have to make sacrifices. If someone offered me a decent position in a marketable field on the condition that I work for free, I'd do it in a heartbeat. I graduated from college last year (with a worthless aviation admin degree and a PPL), was unemployed for 7 months, and now I mow lawns and sell lawn care products for a living. I'm not complaining (thank God I have a job), but I don't want to mow lawns for the rest of my life.

I know I will catch crap from many on this forum, and I understand why, but I feel differently. Experience is all that matters, and I'm willing to make those sacrifices to find success.

If someone was going to mow my lawn for free for experience and does a killer job, why would I pay him or anyone else? :)

do you even ave enough grass to cut???? ;)

I still have grass in the backyard and green rock in the front!

(I'm kidding about the green rock, it's a required xeriscape)

The TINK > DINK > SINK transition kinda put the kibosh on the pool fund! Plus, now I'm working so much I wouldn't be around much to enjoy it, DOH!

So experience that lowers the final goal is worth it?? :dunno:

But why would they be charging people to look at junk ads? :dunno:

Because they can. The only thing CT350 got going for them is because they have been around for a very long time and everyone knows about their web site.

It never stops...

Pay to look at jobs...

Pay to apply for a job with an airline...

Pay to enter a career fair...

Pay to view Interview Gouges...

What's next? Pay for background check? Drug test?

There's a sign down the road with a quote I love.

"A College Degree is a social certificate, not a guarantee of competance."

Perhaps, but it does afford me with the opportunity to "socialize/network" with those who have money whether I'm competent or not. I may not be smart, but I socialized enough through COLLEGE to know who to listen to and who NOT to listen to for guidance or insight.

Definitely wasn't a nondegreed person who got most of my attention. . .with the exception of my father. ;)
