Expect more holding for EWR

I left flying to go to ATC in 84. Only 4 in my class of 20 passed the screen in OKC. I ended up working at LA TRACON for 6 months as an ATA and then got back into flying. Washing out of the academy was the best thing that ever happened to me (though I was devastated at the time). What was sad was guys with families walked away from good jobs to go through the screening process thinking it was a good shot at a good career. Other classes had much better pass rates. Our instructors didn't work too hard to get us through or really seem to care.
Flying was definitely my back up plan and it worked out for me… more than half of my graduating class are completely out of aviation… oh well… you pay your money and take your chances.

It should be noted that the LUV CAK campaign was from late 2012, when the airline was "converting" service from AirTran routes to their brand.

They ceased service at Akron-Canton in 2017 (3X dailys to Atlanta). In retrospect, the whole "LUV CAK" thing seems like yet another example of how the airline was a disrespectful position to whatever AirTran was, other than a source of production inputs.

At least they didn’t try that in Little Rock…

Freq’s crapped out last night and have been continuing issues today
Why isn’t Verizon being taken to the cleaners over this? Did some Verizon exec’s cousin who works for the feds approve the contract with no performance penalties or warranty clause or something? It’s bad enough that the feds did the move over the advice of everyone who actually worked there, but this kind of • where contractors can get paid and have their • not work is where the real government fraud and waste is.

Excuse me sir but how dare you insinuate a corporation be held responsible for their failings. Just what country do you think this is?!

Respectfully, weather is all that GDPs and ground stops should have been for. I won’t speak for staffing since I’ll get a stay-in-your-lane comment, but we have allowed this crap for ridiculous security things. Eg, VIP movement, TFR, etc.

Obviously if the staffing isn’t there I would rather not have a controller try to control too many aircraft. The proper action should be to hire and train more, or cut back the allowed arrival rate (capacity) at such airport. Or as much as one dislikes it, use GDPs.
I've seen SFO literally run out of pavement. Do airline hub ops or terminal ops for a while and you'll understand the traffic just has to stop at a certain point.

Anyway, this thread is depressing. Glad we learned nothing from DCA and all the dozens and dozens of near disasters.

So I’ll use this most-recent GDP due to staffing for the next nine(?) hours to ask a question.

For departures off 22, what’s with that juke to the east before turning on-course to the west? Why?

When departing 4’s you turn to a 055 (used to be 060) to parellel the TEB 6 final which is only 3.5 miles to the east. Idk why they don’t make it an RNAV departure because when the winds are strong from the east not uncommon for that 055 to look more like a 040 and it’s an almost instant deal with the TEB final.

Noise abatement. There's also a hospital just north of RW01 at TEB that creates a slight jog during departure before on course.

Oh. I always thought it was to create space around LDJ’s runway. Nice to know +1

LDJ's airspace tops at 800', and is four miles from the EWR's 22s with 300' towers between the two. Even if OEI, you'd be making a turn prior to hitting a chopper stopper.
