Earbuds in sight of pax?

How about the ultra tailored form fitting pilot shirt and skinny pants? Im all about getting my stuff tailored and I do, I cant stand too much sag in my shwag, but man, Ive seen some guys sporting the skin tight shirt and pants like they're ready for an evening of womanizing at The Bank at the Bellagio. I know it has nothing to do with job performance, considering one of these tight shirt wearing mofos saved our asses climbing out of ORD one morning.

He said to dryclean your tie. You can wash and iron and shirt and pants no problem. I've actually washed and ironed a tie before too.

Sorry, just having fun. Yeah, but to wash clothes that are dry clean only shortens their life. I will use the Dryel sheets in the dryer to freshen up the dry clean stuff though. The 55 cotton/45 poly pants I like the best for wear are dry clean only. Having my shirts done saves my wife from some laundry duty too, but that can get pricey.

I just bought a new tie from a uniform supplier on-line for $6 and it was made in the USA, unlike my Chinese uniform. Pretty close to the company supplier tie too.

I agree that walking around with earbuds is tacky, but if I'm in a corner watching a show on my iPad, that's different.

For some reason listening to music in public annoys me. Maybe it's the hundreds of flights with the guy one row back "listening" to music so loud that I can hear the base and high notes over the din of an airliner cabin. I have no patience for that.

Does anyone's company policy prohibit ear buds. I'm not saying we need a list of things that should be prohibited, that's what being a professional is party about, I'm just curios if this is something the "boss" says don't do or are we just picking on pilots because we can.

Yes. My last year or so at PSA I couldn't believe the number of FOs that I flew with who couldn't go 20 minutes without rocking out to some tunes. I understand, flying 1 hour legs can get boring in a hurry, but honestly... maybe while talking to New York Approach isn't the time? It's not so much an age thing though as I've seen plenty of older guys either blasting music the whole flight through a bluetooth speaker (you try checking in with center with Metallica blaring in the background!) or an ear piece.
I won't admit I'm one of those guys who listens to music... Although, when we're in cruise talking to Air Inc over the ocean, it Can get pretty boring when you're with a guy who can't sustain normal conversation.

Ear buds are better than me Jack ing it in public.....it is so tiny that it looks like an ear bud anyway....either way it's entertainment better than playing guess who the hooker is or coming up with New answers for what route do you have

Speaking of unprofessional, I saw a GoJetter yesterday in JFK with the 2 inch "I <3 BOOBIES " rubber wristband. What a F'ing disgrace!

But was his ID flipped???
Haha, no it wasn't

It's not the fact that he is a GoJet pilot. It is the fact that passenger likes to see professional, well kept, and fit flight crews. Certainly not someone who thinks it is in good taste to advertise vulgar phrases.

You can promote support for breast cancer by wearing just a pink bracelet or a pink tie. Delta is proof of this.

The wristband is vulgar and unprofessional.

I'm surprised I'm getting so much pushback from you on this. Are you of the opinion that it is acceptable?

I don't think it's vulgar.

Immature wording maybe, but if you consider that vulgar, leaving your house in today's society must be downright frightening.

It's not my style, but I see save the tatas stickers on many flight cases.

While everyone looks more disheveled on day 5 than they did on day 1, it's really not that difficult to look professional. I do my best wear the uniform as I should in view of the public. Yes, I have a warmer (non uniform) jacket, but it is only for my walk around at -20c or going out to dinner on an overnight. Yes, I have earbuds, but they're for a quiet corner on a sit, or watching a movie on a deadhead. And having my uniform tailored is a necessity for me (curse you short legs!)

I understand the need for people to have their individuality, I understand being tired and wanting hide out in earbud solitude, I get being worn out and running out of shirts when you get junior manned...it happens. But c'mon, you're being paid to adhere to policy and for your superior judgment skills, show some.

Maybe his wife or something had/has breast cancer? I'm not really saying it's right, but maybe it's more personal than you think. Some people just don't do subtle.

Is it allowed by his company? That's all that really matters vs. the opinion of some corporate pilot on the internet.
IF/WHEN I have to wear a uniform I'll wear it to the letter but I'm not about to police other pilots on what they should or shouldn't wear.
