Dream Job: $200k/yr to fly anything you want. Your choice?

Re: Dream Job: $200k/yr to fly anything you want. Your choi

Second choice, the guys flying the Tomcats in "The Final Countdown"

New KC-46 draggin fighters and "Reach" guys across the seas.

Then commute home from base in the King Air :)

Wow, saying all of those things over the radio at once is unforgiveable. I'd shoot you down beyond visual range. :D

Chicken! At least get close enough so you show up "on the box"

Close, young Jedi. But if you're gonna roll a BF109, get a "Franz", not an "Emil". Better yet, a "Gustav G6/R6" with the aftermarket cannon-pods for bomber-busting. Sure, it destroys what little turnfighting ability the 109 ever had, but it's like a machine gun in a shopping cart...if it can point at you, you're gonna DIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEE!

The ultimate prize, though, goes to the FW190A8. 4 high velocity 20mms and two hard hitting .50s in the nose. Goes like a freight train and turns like one. Boom and Zoom! I'll see you in the Staffels.

109 F4... best 109 Variant IMO... at least of its specific era, the best fighter when it hit the front lines.

The 190 is not my type of plane, while an incredible machine, the boom n zoom tactics wouldn't be my style... If I wanted to do that, I'd choose the 262 :)

Besdies the "Emil" is the most famous 109 make... this one sporting the Abbeville Boys paint job... or as the Brits called them "The Yellow Nosed Bastards"

You probably have read the book, but if not I STRONGLY suggest reading "JG 26"

Boeing 707 with straight turbojets doing low speed, high drag and low altitude passes over every neighborhood that has filed more than 5 aircraft noise complaints next to an airport in the past 6 months. Perhaps after a few of those they'd just up and move away from an airport...

Impressive machine, but it was, what, 9 months ahead of the 190A3? Certainly, if you want to try to turn with a Spitfire, the Franz will do better than the Butcherbird, but the Future was all about BnZ. The 109s climb was incredible (the only way it could survive against the the big American iron later in the war), but it compressed like my wallet in a stripbar when it had to go down, which was its ultimate limitation.

Plus, all other things notwithstanding: The Mustang was pretty, the Thunderbolt was brutal, but the 190 was prettier than the Mustang and more brutal than the Thud. The ultimate piston fighter, bar none*. It looks mean sitting still. Flying it'll steal your girlfriend, do unspeakable things to her, and make her like it. All hail the FW190!

*Ok the Bearcat was at least as awesome, probably more, but it was largely plagarized from captured FWs, so it doesn't count.

Man I don't know where to start.

1. B-36: Where some want a nice shiny yet 747 I require something larger. Oh and where the 747 which is JUST a shiny jet the B-36 has a mixture of jet engines and props.

2. B-1B: I always liked the look of those. Granted it's not as stealthy as the B-2 or has the service record of the B-52 it does go fast.

3. B-56 Hustler: I believe this was the first supersonic bomber.

4. P-71 Black Widow.

5. P-38J Lightning: I have always liked them. Plus they had a pretty nice record in the Pacific.

6. P-51D Mustang: Sorry I'm getting SVPS (Shiney Vintage Plane Syndrome).

7. DC3: Gotta love the classics.

8. SR-71

9. Anything that is being tested at Area 51

10. F-16

11. F-22

12. F-35

13. Spaceship One by Virgin Galactic.

14. The Concorde: If I was in the position to fly anything this would be the only airliner I would have on my list.

$200k is not enough to even consider the gig.

Re: Dream Job: $200k/yr to fly anything you want. Your choi

I found out the other day that my grandfather helped design the A-4, and as such I'd fly the hell out of the Scooter, and spend most of my time chasing MikeD around in an A-10.

Does your mad max scenario by any chance include MU-2s equipped with mini-guns and rocket pods flying close air support missions for raids against competing post-apocalyptic war lords? Cause if so count me in.

Swedes already thought of this, damn them. The ultimate limitation of the idea was that the enemy fled the battlefield due to all the noise. Nevertheless, if you're willing to do deplorable things for a (small) share in the spoils, you're hired.

"six turning four burning"

Or if you're a flight engineer "two turning, two burning, two smoking, two joking, and two unaccounted for"

I don't know, I think this was better looking that all the above you mentioned but of course, that's my opinion : )

Re: Dream Job: $200k/yr to fly anything you want. Your choi

My dream job like this would definitely be flying a newer model gulf stream for a boss that really wanted to help people. I mean that every trip I made would be to help some people in need out by providing fast, comfortable transportation. Something like doing angel flights to help people out that are in dire situations. I believe that I have been blessed with being able to fly and I want to do all that I can in order to give back to the people around me that could benefit from my skills as a pilot. It would be such a great thing to be able to help so many people by giving them comfortable, fast transportation when they were in times of dire need.

Re: Dream Job: $200k/yr to fly anything you want. Your choi

I'm not aware of any air ambo jobs that involve a Gulfstream. A clapped out Learjet, maybe. By the standards of the Riddle Brigade, I've just undergone a massive downgrade in equipment to do just a thing. And I tell you with hand over heart that I'm very glad I did. Money is nice, and I hope they give me a lot of it, someday. Jets are pretty cool, too, and I hope I wind up flying an SR-71 with sick children in the back. But knowing that what you're doing is subtracting from rather than adding to the sum total of human misery in the world? Priceless.

Well that is the thing. This thread is supposed to be about anything we want to fly in whatever situation. I am not talking about just any kind of air ambulance job would be the "perfect" one I would love to do. I am talking about flying for a guy that was just privately sponsoring an operation flying people like that around instead of actually flying for some form of air ambulance company.

Re: Dream Job: $200k/yr to fly anything you want. Your choi

Funny because I wanted to write the same thing but thought peeps would think Im a snob.

I thought about making the hypothetical pay 1 meeellion dollars, but I wanted to avoid making the scenario just about money. That's why I wrote "If you'd take the job" in the original post because I figured some folks wouldn't for any number of reasons, including not enough money.
