DL/AA how will they contact for interview

Brand new here. Me and a coworker of mine were both emailed last Friday about making it past the first step and needing to fill out the online application prior to being called by AA for an interview? We both filled it out...and today is Labor Day and neither of us have been called to go to DFW yet? Are they doing background checks now in light of the No Fly List guy before calling or is the Labor Day weekend slowing things down? Also, if anyone has an interview gouge, like what kind of questions are on the test, and stuff like that, I would really appreciate it.

Would not read too much into it.
They interview Eagle people this week so I think u will have more info this week.

It's really going to depend on how big the class size is going to be and how many people they decide to take from Eagle... if they only need to fill a few slots because they hired a lot from Eagle, I expect them to be much more selective in who they call for interviews.

I interviewed August 29th. Interview format was first to do a 50 question test with mainly ATP weather/regs questions but also some technical questions.
After test was two page written essay. The old question was to write about why you want to work for AA but they are changing that question for each interview class so people cant rehearse their answers.

After the essay portion, they ask general HR questions going around the room in random fashion. They normally ask half the people one question, the other half another and have 1-2 question everyone answers.

They are hiring 2 and maybe a third class. First class will be in October and be a class of 12 internals and Eagle. The second class in November/December will be mix of internals/externals. Class size of 10. A third class may be possible in January.

Interviewed 25 internals and will be interviewing 68 externals. External interviews should be mid to late September.

Oh my...with all those Eagle people....that's a lot of externals for a few jobs. I am not real surprised though. Thanks so much for the gouge....now I have to study for that test.

First class of 11 is finalized/set to start this month...interviews are in progress still for mid-Nov class of about 12.

I am wondering how AA/DL will contact
you for interviews. I have seen majors
email or call people. So I am just
curious if anyone has been contacted
yet. Thanks
Hello 9E,
Found this site while researching for my AA interview. I was contacted by AA on the 28th of August asking about interviewing. I had put in for the job online and received the followup asking to send more info. My interview is on the Wednesday. I'll confirm what happened when I get back that night.

Hope you get your interview (if you have not already).

Thanks to all for the great information.

Hello all,
Interviewed with AA on Wednesday. As said before, three part session. First was a 50 question test. Covers basic dispatch, wx, etc. Next was essay; then the hr "forum". They told us 193 external canidates, interviewed 48 (I think is what he said). Classes in December and January, will let us know in about two weeks for the December class.

Did they say how many guys they would actually hire? When I interviewed on Wednesday they said they had no idea how many they would actually hire.

Hello BruinsFan,
I thought they said two classes 10-12 per class. I could be mistaken, I was trying to keep up with the q&a while writing down notes.

I also interviewed on Wednesday and I seem to recall hearing about 10-12 like hdb heard. They also gave me the impression that they were not 100% sure they would even have a January class.

The exam was more tricky than I expected, and I knew about 97% of the wx and regs questions of the green book going in. They said they would grade the test on a curve. After the multiple choice section everyone in my group was able to come back in to continue the interview.

I felt good about the interview, but there was plenty of competition (with various degrees of experience) so I would understand if I were passed over this time. It was a nice learning experience.

I'm quickly learning that experience means dick. Good luck.

I felt the same way for a while but when I got hired by a major I had over ten years of experience...hang in there MT.

Its not what you know but who you know in dispatch. AA just hired an AE crew scheduler with no dispatch experience but the scheduler had connections upstairs and experience at AE scheduling. This same story gets played out in some degree at every airline.

It is easier to hire people who you know. Pinnacle, for example, hires pretty much anyone with a pulse. Its a double edged sword for Pinnacle. You get very good dispatchers and very bad dispatchers. Airlines that hire based mainly on experience do so because the airline sees experience as having a better track record at finishing training and staying in the company long term.

That is true in almost every career with the exception of civil service jobs to some extent. I will say that experience does not necessarily mean someone good at a specific job, it just means that it has been done before.
