All I care about is whether a guy is a member, is active in the union, and pays his dues. He can wear a pink bow tie for all I care, as long as he is an active member. Voting and actually participating is FAR more important than what pin he is wearing.

My frustration with the ASA union was never the union itself. It was the lack of participation that allowed a small faction to run the show. A guy could get elected with 20 votes! So that's why I say I don't care what the guy wears as long as he participates.
