Delta opening new hire window?

Hey there. All-star please. Over medium. Hash browns, smothered and covered. Bacon. White toast. Bisquit and gravy.

Thanks.

Rumor Control
There’s been a rumor circulating that Delta opened the pilot hiring window this week. Unfortunately, that is not true. Our Pilot Hiring group has maintained a presence at select job fairs and conventions since we stopped hiring in 2010 and prospective applicants can still post applications towww.airlineapps.com; however, Flight Ops has not yet received the Network plan for Summer 2013 to determine any staffing needs. US Airways announced that they opened their hiring window this week.

When the hiring window does open for Delta, how much of a weight does having LORs from current Delta pilots carry? I have zero TPIC hours, and have nothing but SIC time. But I have 7 LORs on file on airline apps, 3 of which are from Delta guys. I know once the app window opens, there will be about a million applications flooded into Delta and I just want a chance, considering based on people's experience levels, I'll be at the bottom of the totem pole.

Internal LORs bump you to the top, or close to it. Had a convo with one of the hiring types the last time we hired. His words, "We have a stack of thousands of apps for a few hundred jobs. If you know anybody in the stack, put in a LOR for them. It will move them from the thousands to the hundreds stack to get looked at."

Better if it's from someone who has actually flown with you, but if not, it still helps. They are using LORs to cut through the mass of apps. The philosophy is, if an employee is willing to put it out there for someone, they are worth a look.

Thanks! Yea with my minimal experience, I figure the only way to get looked at is with LORs. Who knew all those days on reserve sitting on the crashpad couch in DTW, shooting stories with my NWA roomates would help me out. Like Derg says, network, network, network!

Eggxactly! You never know who will be in a position to help you out.

Does the seniority of the pilot giving the LOR weigh on the applicants position in the pile? The one LOR I know I will have when ready will be from the top of the seniority list. He's an ATL CA on the 77 right now and is a personal friend. I hope to have a few more once I start flying 121 but I know I have that one for sure.

Yes, you've got to network.

Opportunity comes from the funniest locations too so always be on the lookout and prepared for it.

Ha! At RAH, when a rumor circulates, finds it's way to FLTOPS and finds it's way back to us all black and blue like that, that usually means it raised a few eyebrows for a reason!
