Delta hiring slowing?

Can you also give me the lotto numbers?

That was a simple observation based on reality.

Airlines will have hired less pilots for 2024 than they did for 2023. Sorry, are you looking for validation for starting over the seniority game? No, I don’t have lottery numbers for you.

As of last week, AA still “claims” over 2000 hires for 2024. I’m sure UAL is way up there.
UAL is leading the airlines in delusional hiring forecasts at saying they would have 4000 this year only to barely even hire half of that. If y’all think hiring is going to be 2-3000 for many years to come and this news shocks you, I have some bad news for you…

I feel like you are both saying "sustainable staffing" in different ways. The hiring free-for-all at delta was never going to continue forever. Or anywhere else. They have also probably dried up their pool, and have the ability to press pause if they need to, until the pool fills again with the types of candidates they want to hire.
The hiring we just saw was purely due to the shrinkage of lists during Covid to get back to pre-Covid level (with some growth) then moderate it back to attrition+ moderate growth. 1100 pre Covid would be crazy good hiring year. Except now it’s a capacity dampening tactic? At DL we went from 12500 to 17000 in 3 years. Obviously we don’t need to continue to hire 2500 from now and beyond. I’m just confused at who thought that?

He might be right about the ULCCs. Which isn’t good for the consumer and is, at best, a mixed bag for labor, too.
Agree on both. I don’t think he’s wrong. I also don’t know if a 28,000 pilot seniority list is, uh, realistic. Been burned by growth claims before.

Now that’s a name I haven’t heard in a very long time, with good reason

I’ve been saying for about 6 months now that jumping to the bottom of a 16k+ list might not be the best move. Not that I wouldn’t do it, it just isn’t the slam dunk it was a year ago. Unless of course you’re at the regionals. In that case run don’t walk.
