DCI Shuffle

People around the 9E camp seem to think that the company is now the lowest cost DCI carrier (even lower that GoJet) ....

I mean I know 9E is the lowest cost carrier...

I can tell you with great certainty that we- even under this concessionary agreement- are not the cheapest. Nor are we the 2nd cheapest.

I was anti-leather-jacket until I became a Bro FO and realized that my steamship coat would quickly get ruined.

You never did LGA. That would ruin the hardest of materials in a four day rotation. You had that BOS love where you could start an engine just for grins.
Well then I want to know how well custom made uniforms hold up in extreme conditions. I wonder if anyone has ever had one made.
Speaking of BOS, I bet that gate agent with the big booty probably tore up your uni ;)

Steamship worked just fine in the Saab...

Having flown both, the Bro is noticeably smaller and tougher on unis than the Saab ever was. The trench coat worked fine for me on the Saab but it is a PITA on the Bro. I never wore leather til I got to the Brophus either but now I rarely bring anything else, if I bring a coat at all.

Hats are optional ;)

Apparently, this is the new terror over at 9E. They'll change the name, change the uniform and the hat will become mandatory. I mean, the new CEO is a Comair guy.....

Nice not to have that problem. A jetBlue hat doesn't even exist, not even as an option. :)

I don't know what uniform works best in which airplane but I know that the leather jacket looks cheap and ridiculous.

It's funny but the only people I hear knocking the hat are other pilots. I've never heard any of my non pilot coworkers, airport workers, or passengers make fun of the hat like all pilots claim they do. In fact it doesn't take long to realize after you start wearing the hat that everyone treats you differently at work. I don't hear military personnel or law enforcement personnel degrading their uniforms like I do pilots. In fact I can't think of a time when I've ever seen any of them wear their uniform with anything less than pride. It's really a shame because somewhere along the line pilots let a whole lot of nasty external problems convince them that they have an excuse to lower our dress standards. Even worse, many let those same things lower our overall performance standards.

If you want to be treated like a professional you better look like one first. Once you start allowing yourself to look like everyone else, guess how you'll be treated? Go ahead and let me have it. I know which side of this argument I'd rather be on.

I agree Cav. I dont get what the fuss is about in regards to hats. If its mandatory its mandatory, plain and simple.

I do agree with those who say it should not be part of the summer uniform. The old CAL policy was pretty good in my opinion. Wear the jacket wear the hat. Intl flying (excluding several tropical dest) was always full uniform regardless of time of year.

I wear my company's uniform correctly and completely, and I even iron my shirts. ;)

The jacket-no-hat decision is practicality, and permitted.

I don't mind the hat.

Skyway was big on hats as well is my current employer, I figure if I apply to Hot Dog on a Stick at the mall, I've got to wear the uniform or walk across and apply at Orange Julius.

Looks good with the coat, looks ridiculous without. Hell the summer uniform with the short sleeves looks cheesy AFAIC but wot eva.

I actually own a hat, too. I might do the cheesy summer uniform look (short sleeves and hat). It's almost time to start leaving my jacket at home.

This isn't a Saab.

It's faster, for one. :D

Are you guys under some corporate directive to interface with the public more often? They're kind of leaning toward that with us.

Not that I'm aware of, but I wouldn't be surprised if something came down the pipe. Incidentally I'm actually going to do some DCI flying next month (for whatever reason I have a trip that goes LAX-SGU-SLC-TWF). Guess I'll have to break out the lanyard.
