I can tell you that being furloughed is no fun, and that's the only future for you at XJT.

Get out while you can.
Yeah, I am not expecting any movement. I was hoping that this could stay afloat long enough for me to find something worthwhile, but it looks like it may not be. I would imagine I'd be left seat at Commutair within 6 months, making more than I do now. Just my luck I'd start class the day XJT got good news (as laughable as that is)

You may leave the industry and find that you love doing something else for a living.

Most of us come back.

yawn...whipsaw all over again...good luck to the who ever this hurts

These 145's were parked in the desert and were owned by United (or a United owned leasing company. Why have an asset sitting around if you can use it?

It's a tough call. I could have jumped ship after 6 months at C5 and went to RAH. Based at home was the only draw and it was a big one. But with my luck I'd have gotten on there and then they'd close PIT. I'm glad I stuck around C5 now, but it was getting dark here after the CLE closure. Moving the Mx base to ALB caused our Mx to suffer for a long time since none of the experienced guys went to ALB. Folks were leaving for LCC's and the legacies. It was getting ugly. I heard that at one point, we were ready to close the doors until this deal was being negotiated with United.

I've been here just over two years and I'm just about done with upgrade on the Dash ( OE done, Fed ride and company line check to go). There were guys ahead of me, but so many didn't have the 1000 hours 121/135 time. With the expansion needed here, you could come here and advance quickly. But is it a safe bet? No one knows. We are heading to uncharted territory for C5 and I have no doubt we'll have issues with it. But I'm going to stay here until they shut the doors or I get a better offer. It's a regional, there's always a suck to it.

Thanks for the insight, I always appreciate your comments.

If you're going to make the move, do it soon. We have about 180 pilots and they want 600 when all of these planes are delivered. If you get in the January (might be full already) or February class, you will be sitting pretty. The front of the wave is right now.

Man, I am reeeeaaallllyyy thinking about jumping. 2 year 145 FO, still on reserve for the foreseeable future. But I can hold weekends off on reserve so it could be worse. Houston base would be OK, that's a commute I used to do and is driveable.

Regardless, I'm not seeing anything good at my current shop. I hate to just jump and perpetuate the musical pilots game...

We're a really great pilot group, Ajax. I'm 4.5 years in and overall have had a good experience. Making the "lateral move" sucks, but between 40 planes, hundreds of new pilots, and the CPP, I'd say it's worth a serious look into. Also, our new CBA was just ratified which has tons of QoL improvements, especially for reservists. And hey, ground school would be a breeze, you already know the systems! And as said before, a huge hiring wave is about to begin, you'd likely be on a similar or better schedule within a few months. Let me know if you have any questions.

I've heard of some XJT pilots keeping doh for travel going to SKW. They have an IAH base.

.

That's what they told everyone, but that is not what happened, it was all over the XJT forums, the pic was of a plane that was currently flown...shh nothing to see hear

Hi,

Can you explain this "Fed ride" you mention above? I don't have 121 experience so I'm curious if FAA take part in upgrade flight? Or if it's just C5? Or if it was just yours.

Thanks!

A "Fed ride" is the common term for a required FAA observation during 121 Captain Upgrade. As far as I know, the FAA must observe each upgrade applicant during their upgrade Operating Experience. At CommutAir, this consists of an FAA observer riding in the jumpseat during a flight or two during upgrade training. On the line, you will see the FAA occasionally.

Can anyone clarify something about the signing bonus? They are currently advertising 7k if you already have your ATP/CTP. Would this also include having the 2014 121 written complete, since you wouldn't have to do the CTP before training?

Yes you get 7K if you have the written complete from 2014.

@panman-pilot thanks!
Are there currently any bottlenecks between indoc and sims? Might be down to the wire to get the checkride done before the written expires...

With United taking back more regional flying, will it have any effect on 40 E145 C5 is suppose to receive?

Wen will the 145 actually show up? I know there is 1 on ramp, rest?

C5 is still only hiring for Q's. When will they start hiring for the 145?

Thanks
