When I was a kid my friends dad had an E190 with the phone installed a la:

One weekend we were driving back from a climbing trip in WV. I was sitting in the back seat and it was storming pretty heavily when out of nowhere the car blew up. BOOM and everything flashed blue. Lighting had struck the car phone antenna that was mounted to the C pillar about 18 inches from my head. Melted the ceramic base and turned the phone internals into goo. I suppose I can't go so far as to say I've actually been struck by lighting but that was pretty darned close

Back in a former life, while I lived in Florida, I tried to explain to an insurance adjuster that the vehicle I was working on, that had been hit, was going to cost to much to repair, and he should total it. He refused, and we put about $32k of repairs into a $35k vehicle. Every harness, computer, and some hard parts had to be replaced. Along with all the body work to patch the hole where it came in, and went out, and the resulting water damage from those holes.

Yeah, they actually repaired the car and drove it for another couple of years before it was totaled in a wreck. Those old 190's were hardy little cars.
