Charter airline Champion Air going out of business

You just make it sound like all these Skybus guys purposely did this just to screw the industry.

No, I don't think they did it specifically to screw the industry, I think they did it in spite of knowing that it was going to screw everyone else, though. They simply didn't care, because it was better for them. "Screw everyone else, I've got mine."

Crossing a picket line is completely different.

I disagree, but we aren't going to come to an understanding on this. Just going around in circles. Whatever.

As long as you keep GIA First Officer in your signature, it's pretty difficult to give any merit to that statement or the one making the statement.

and for the record, I never called anyone a scab upfront......I just said that paying for airline time was worse than crossing the line....anyone care to disagree??? Any other union guys out there in the bismark????

I'll keep it there because it's true. I don't hide from it. In fact, I want it out there for everyone to see so newbies can ask me about it if they're thinking about going. That way I can steer them away. If that makes you tune me out, then so be it.

Put a price on a Skybus guys QOL and s/he may be making more than you. You can't put a price on happiness and I don't think that most people are so die hard "FOR THE INDUSTRY" as you PCL. I don't think that anything is wrong with that. This is a job and we do it to better the lives of ourselves and families. In any other profession you go where it will make you the happiest. Whether that be for wealth, days off, benefits, etc... We all have different reasons.

I agree that I think a union is better but Im not going to berate and sling mud at someone who goes or views this differently because everyones situation is completely different and in my humble opinion you need to view this more on a person to person basis than on and industry wide basis.

The one thing we agree on is that we will never agree on this.

Thats good you would steer people away...I just find it hypocritical because you can knock everyone else for mistakes, but somehow you have rationalized a free pass in your case.

I don't knock people for mistakes. I knock people for intentional actions. If some guy goes to GoJet right out of flight school because he didn't know any better, then he'll get no grief from me. But if someone goes to Skybus, he knew better. Their minimums exclude any newbies from getting hired. Everyone that goes there is well versed in this industry. Honest mistakes are no big deal. Everyone makes mistakes. It's the intentional decisions that don't get overlooked.

Thats exactly right...PCL, you need to understand that for the most part guys going to non union airlines aren't doing it to hurt you, or any other pilots...Theres no malice. Pilots should help eachother when they can, but this is a job...Thats all. Any man that puts his job before the well being of his family, well...I feel sorry for them.

BS...If you didn't pay for your first job, you would be the first person on the message board berating them.

Indeed, very well put...

And that's the attitude that has caused this profession to fall so far. This is far more than "just a job" to me. This is a proud profession. Or at least it used to be...

Its is a proud profession to all of us. Some just see things differently.

Apparently not to Mike. He said it's "just a job." I'm sure you'll both adjust your mindsets as time goes on, however. Lots of newer guys feel the same way until they've been beaten down by the industry for a few years, then they see the light. I was once the same way.

PCL- Listen, I think that in your heart and mind, you are acting on what you think is the best for the industry. I completely disagree with your approach, but its noble that you are trying to apply what you believe is the right thing to do. That said, regardless if you were a "noob" and didn't know better or not, you still put money in the pockets of Gulfstream, and kept them in business, which they still continue to screw honest pilots to this day. So please get off your "I can do no wrong" throne.

Im sure he is proud to do what he does but at the end of the day it is a job. I go home sit with my wife and do the same thing I would if I got home from working as a bus driver.

Be proud about who you are not what you do.
