Challenger Truckee

I know of a GV crew that took off out of KVNY with pax on the way to the Bahamas. When they selected gear up all they got was the in transit light and three green, apparently for some unknown reason they then attempted to blow the gear down (I suspect they may have thought this would extinguish the in transit indication, but it won't because the gear doors are now pneumatically held open), so they contacted the tower and came around for a normal (although heavy) landing. They taxied in, shut down, got the pax off, put in the gear pins, wrote up the gear and called MX. Obviously this sort of thing requires a notification to FAA. When MX arrived the first thing to do is inspect the gear, and the first thing they noticed was the gear pin flags on all three gear were tattered. MX sent one of their people to view the surveillance video of the ramp and sure enough the copilot was seen installing the pins. The crew was getting a bit defensive at this point, insisting the airplane was broken. What they didn't know was someone was watching them as they were taxiing back and stopped, opened the door, removed the gear pins, closed the door and continued to the ramp. Why they decided to blatantly lie instead of just admitting a mistake in a world where video cameras are everywhere, including everyones pockets, is unknown. MX then had to drag the airplane into a hangar, jack it up while it's heavy with fuel, and go through a complete landing gear functional test with the FAA PMI looking over their shoulder, all in about 4-5 hours work for a crew of 4 (including an RII inspector). Silly pilots, tricks are for kids.

The same guy posted himself violating 250KIAS below 10k.

Ah, a toolbag from south FL that is an insecure crappy pilot. What a shocker!

As a former south FL pilot myself, I have no idea how I survived that part of my career unscathed due to dealing with idiots like this. There really is a lot of luck involved in this career.
Same. I believe we just missed each other down there but I got my time and got out. I saw the writing on the wall with the “career” track down there. No thanks.

Yep, and we’ve had some mutual acquaintances get caught up in it. I barely missed being involved with with N8001V crash.

I have major bias against South Florida pilots. The flyinh culture is just too bad down here. And it's honestly the blind leading the blind. I use contractors a lot and I routinely airline them in from other places than use typed guys right here in my own back yard.

There are also too many "SIC" typed guys down here who haven't been to any formal training on the various airframes they claim to have "experience" flying.

Yep, that would’ve been me at one point! When I was hired, I was supposed to be sent to school for our CJ3 and soon to be delivered Sovereign. Then the economy tanked, and they did “in house” SIC on the CJ3. There was absolutely nowhere else to go at that point, so I had to do it.

About a year later I received a class date at Colgan, and told my chief pilot I was leaving for Colgan if they didn’t send me for the PIC type that I was promised. He begrudgingly agreed. But this was just the type of BS a lot of us had to deal with in the mid-2000s.

Well, there’s “the lucky”, and there’s “the good”, and then there is just having enough common sense to remove yourself from a bad, or soon to be bad, situation.

Survivors get the door prizes.

"Yesterday someone put two of my gear pins in" sure buddy.

I called him a loser on that post and he banned me from the group lol

Honestly, that entire group makes Jerry look like Chuck Yeager. The comments they make on top of the lack of professionalism or any sort of commitment to being even a marginal pilot is shocking. Someone started a thread on why do 91/135 crash more than 121 and everyone's answer was that 121 pilots are lazy and suck. WTF?? I had always heard stories of how bad 91/135 could be, but peeking into that group made it seem WAY worse than I imagined. FFS, the guy that started the group is calling dead pilots losers while simultaneously posting evidence of his gross negligence on a regular basis, and the other pilots are cheering him on!!!

Not long after the Truckee crash, he posted a screenshot of a widow's facebook post and tried to twist it into how he calls dead pilots losers out of love and more pilots should go around (The accident he's referencing was on departure. Not sure what kind of go around corporate pilots are able to do on departure from what seems to presumably be a flight control malfunction). The guy really enjoys patting himself on the back for doing nothing, and then takes no responsibility for the large transgressions of his mouth or the understandable errors he makes as a pilot.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but when has selfie videos on base to final been legal and/or safe under 91/135? Same question, but flying the hudson corridor? And this is their champion????

I will never understand how the FAA will ground a pilot for honestly seeking mental help to better themselves, but allows someone like Coursey to operate in his continued stupidity.
