Challenger crashed onto highway in Naples FL

New here. Hi all. Regarding the the DEF, Prist conversation, I work line at the sole FBO at CLT. Not sure about other places but we have a Prist tank and a DEF tank on all our fuel trucks. So the Prist gets mixed in in the fueling process with the turn of a knob if requested. Obviously the DEF and Prist tanks are clearly labeled but mistakes could happen. The DEF and Prist refilling areas are clearly marked and labeled and are kept about 100 yards from each. Further making extra steps not to confuse or combine the 2.
If you're ever at Wilson Air at CLT during the night say hi. I usually have a smile unless a Lav is requested 😁
Welcome to JC. Thanks for the insight from a line technician perspective. Most of us on here are airline pilots, but there are some 91/135 guys and gals, too. Cheers!

Coldest I've ever seen was -80c but I’ve spent my fair amount of time cruising at -70c in aircraft without Prist for the same reason. Never have an issue.

It’ll take a little research to confirm but I think most the DEF contamination events were almost immediate, rather than during the descent.
Agreed, DEF is significantly heavier than Jet fuel so it gets to have fun first!

That's happened across all industries (military, charter, airline...), but I haven't heard anything reporting that had an engine issue or declaring an emergency before landing on road. Then again, I haven't combed through all of it either, nor have I listened to the LiveATC feed.

That's hard to watch. Almost looks like if they'd been slightly more aligned with the road they might not have hit the wall and brewed up, but then how many more cars would they have crunched? "A for effort", whatever the Rest of The Story may turn out to be.
My thoughts as well. If they’d successfully landed on the road the death toll would probably have been higher even if they lived.

Perhaps the answer to this question is obvious to everyone but me, but humor me. Why does the Jet Fuel truck have a DEF dispenser? do any aircraft use DEF?

(Yes, I know what it is, I drive a diesel, and I know what happens if it gets put in the wrong tank)

No dispenser. Just a tank for the trucks diesel engine to use. But you could see were one could accidentally fill the Prist tank with DEF. There are plenty of things in the way to prevent that from happening. Hopefully.

Hello from a former WAC CLT ramper. I worked there 2008-2010. I was furloughed from PSA at the time. I also worked there when it was still Signature Flight Support from 1998-2003.

I don’t get it. What does liberals and non-union have anything to do with it?

Unless you’re implying liberals/Democrats are more labor friendly. Yeah, it was liberals who stopped Spirit/JetBlue, potentially putting Spirit in an Chp 11 (or even Chp 7 according to some analysts).

The DNC is immeasurably more pro-labor than the GOP.

What questions can anyone sane answer for you? :)

Hence, the "uncrashable" airbus. Humans just get more creative.
