Cape Air Hiring into Pool

Honestly, it's hard to get anyone at this company to respond to a voicemail. I can think of maybe two times I've had a direct response from a phone message I left. You have to go through email with these people. I don't know why, it's just the way it is.

BTW, CRJ- love your new avatar. Makes me miss the states even more . . .

I love the irony of how no one would touch a great company like this 18 months ago and now the place is flooded down with resumes.

The sad part is that 90% of these people will quit or turn down a class date at the first sign of their airline doing recalls.

For a job that has you home just about every night, IF NOT every night, you can make a comfortable living. And your reply doesn't make it right.

Of course, and if you look at there payscale you see why...

That, like almost everything in the 135 world, is entirely subjective to base, line, and willingness/ability to work overtime. There is plenty of good money to be made if you're willing and able to work for it. If not, then look elsewhere . . .

I know people there. They love it. I would go there in a heartbeat even if the regionals were all hiring like gangbusters again.

You do know the pay is per duty hour! You can make about the same money if not more at Cape Air than flying a shiny 76 seat regional jet FO...

Yep, I'm taking home just about double what I made first year the ERJ. Home every night, too. Can't complain too terribly much. :)

Really? how much time do you spend sitting around though? I mean thats swell and good but if you work for 12 hours flying 10 of those it doesn't make much of a difference...:banghead:

You are still getting paid if you are sitting around!! It's just like a regular job, punch-in in the morning and punch-out at night and you are getting paid for the ENTIRE time you are on duty! At the airlines I get paid doors closed to open. I'm NOT getting paid during that lovely 3.5 hour airport sit. I wish the airlines would pay per duty hour, so I'm not doing the walkaround, paperwork, etc. for free. Oh, and Cape Air matches the per diem rate to most regionals.

I do not work at Cape, but if given the opportunity I will. And I am probably one of the few guys who will not take a recall at my regional!

It all depends on your line. If you have a hard line with a minimum you're guaranteed a certain number of hours per week, usually 35 to 40. Up north that doesn't come out to a whole lot after taxes, but if you pick up an extra day you can get as much as 10 hours of overtime at time and a half. Head south for the winter and get an additional $3/hour. Not a fortune but not bad for a 402 pilot.

Generally speaking, most lines don't have much more than 5 hours of actual flying.

We've had ATR-42's in Guam for a year or two now. It's our 121 side of the company flying for Continental Connection. Our contract was just renewed through 2011.

Interviewed as Capt on begining of Feb; got hired into the pool.

I was told posible ground school end of Mar or begin Aprl from last conversation with Cair few weeks ago.

I think I will keep swimming for now.:whatever:

I just put in my resume with Cape Air over the web site. I would not be able to relocate up north. I was hoping to work part-time but year round down in Florida. I have my ATP with 1750/350. The only way I know about them was through the web site. Just from the little research I did I saw no red flags, and after reading this, sounds like a good place to work. What are the odds of getting a call or email from them?

I thought they came online around 2003? I know it's been a good while; one of the SJU guys was in the first groundschool for it and I know it was a good 5-6 years ago. Ah, who knows. :D

From my experience it's a lot of time sitting around, but we're pretty overstaffed in this base. I do a 4 on/3 off backup schedule and actually am at work 25-30 hours/week, with 10-12 actual flight hours each week. But hey, guaranteed 40 hours/week at $18/hr ($15/hr first year + $3/hr override). It's really not terrible. If nothing else, if you have a line with 13 hours of duty each day, you legally cannot be scheduled for more than 8 hours of flight time. That's 5 hours of sitting around each day, but what the hell? You're getting paid anyway. :)
