Re: Boeing opens S.C plant . flips NLRB an exclamation point

Everyone needs to contribute to the society that we have here in America. Those with greater means should make a bigger contribution.

Someone has to pay for everything in this country. The military, the constant wars, the infrastructure, the safety nets, etc. Somebody has to pay for it. Someone who makes $100 million per year has much more capability to contribute a slightly higher percentage than someone who makes $100k per year. I'm sorry, but it's just common sense. Forget ideology and think pragmatism. Ideology is based on preconceived notions, not reality.

Common sense? "You make more money than me, so you should give me some, even if you worked harder than me for it. You have the means to do it, so it's the right thing to do. In fact, I'm going to make laws that will force you to give me money."

Does that about cover it?

Money comes from work, not need. The "steal from the rich, give to the poor" mentality only works in fairy tales. Taxes that fund basic infrastructure are one thing; forcing others to fund entitlement programs is quite another.

Spira: Yeah buddy, you got me good... *shrugs*

I didn't say anything about "giving me some." I don't need anyone else's money. I do just fine on my own. But that doesn't have anything to do with funding the basic requirements of a modern society, such as highways, the military, social safety nets, airports, etc.

If by "entitlement program" you really mean "safety nets," like social security and food stamps, then I consider those to be basic requirements of a modern society, and yes, they need to be funded.

I know you do just fine...you tell everyone on every one of your posts. :) I'm talking from the standpoint of someone who works the counter at the local gas station and has no ambition to go any further.

Ask yourself this: What right does anyone else have to the fruits of YOUR labor?

Ok, let me get you up to speed holmes:

So you read a few books that had ideas that you thought were mind blowing, and now you need to convince the rest of the world that what you've seen in these books has consequences that are on par with the revelations. Instead of turning people towards your goal, all you do is piss them off and make them hate what you're saying.

Kind of like how you seem to feel about Christians eh? You've basically become what you hate.

Give it a rest.

Really? I'm sorry that I don't stick to the "being an airline pilot sucks and you'll always be poor" mantra. I should just stick to script so all of the new pilots here are depressed and wanting to slit their wrists. My apologies.

Is there something inherently wrong with someone being content working at the local gas station? Why do you look down on that man? I can assure you, you're no better than him just because you make more money and wear a fancier outfit when you go to work. I'm getting a bit tired of the conservative idea that if you're a blue collar Joe who isn't obsessed with obtaining more wealth that you're somehow lazy and worthless to society.

Ask yourself this: What right does anyone else have to the fruits of YOUR labor?

Again, someone has to pay for the things that make society function. What you really propose is basically anarchy. Everyone for himself, because the government has absolutely no right to "the fruits of YOUR labor." It's ridiculous.

Honestly, I don't think we'll ever see eye to eye. What you're reflecting back at me isn't what I'm trying to convey at all, and I'm out of energy on this topic now that the gang is all here. Let's just put it this way: The "one for all and all for one" thing has never made any sense to me, and I don't think it ever will.

If you give a man a fire, he will stay warm for a night. If you set a man on fire, he will stay warm for the rest of his life.

In reality, we probably have more loopholes today even with the lower tax rates than there were in years past with the higher rates.

In reality...nope. And the loopholes are not nearly as lucrative.

That is what pinkos do though. Their arguments are morally bankrupt so they have to resort to that.

I think what you were trying to say was that people make certain life choices, and that we individually shouldn't be stuck with the bill for those choices. I know nobody that resents a true safety-net for people in need, but what they've become is a lifestyle. If you really want to score points, bring up big labors documented history of violence - ATN will first wet himself then ignore you. Because if they can no longer twist your arguments around successfully, and you continue to believe differently, that's what he will do. ATN is a State of the Art lib/pinko.

Boeing is probably setting up a scapegoat.

HAL has failed, we need a stabilized 30 mile straight in.... Blame Teh Laborz!!!! Yup, seen that with a bus. Hooray innovation!

Don't get me wrong, I love Boeing and want them to succeed, I just don't get the trim switch on a FBW aircraft.

Precisely. There's nothing wrong with forming private charities for people who are legitimately in need. Let the rich voluntarily pour money into those charities (and they will). However, forcing people with higher incomes to pick up the slack for people who refuse to better themselves (not all poor people of course, but many) is, to me, government-sponsored theft. It's plainly unethical, even if it is a possible solution. I'm not an anarchist of course; I believe in taxes for basic government infrastructure (defense, roads, justice system, etc.), but "basic infrastructure," to me, specifically excludes entitlement programs. I think that's the major disconnect here.

I've got no problem debating with ATN, by the way. At least he debates head-on. Most of these guys just crawl out of the woodwork, take pot shots to try to throw your argument off kilter, then crawl back without actually saying anything pertinent. You might disagree with what I have to say, but if you do, let's debate it! Debate is healthy.

Or the cruise ship sized yoke. :)

How do you imagine that those people "achieved" their "higher incomes"? If your concern is "government-sponsored theft", you're missing the mark by a long, long, longshot. What do you, yourself, mean when you say "free-market"? Think about that and compare it to how the world works. IMS, you're a "Constitutionalist". Do a little googlesearch on wealth-distribution in, say, 1790 and 1990. Then talk to us about "theft", government-sponsored or otherwise. There hasn't been anything even resembling a "free-market" in the western world for at least a century. Yet you still see "free-market" as how we live. Why do you imagine that might be?

Boris, you damn pinko commie! :)

I agree with you. Our country is not a true free market; it's a mixed market that's continually trending toward socialism. Of course (as I previously said in this very thread) there are in fact people who achieved their wealth through unscrupulous means, who've used their government influence to sway markets in their favor. That's obviously unethical, as well. I'm speaking about taking money from the people who did start a legitimate business or worked hard to build their wealth.

Even the middle-class funding the lifestyle habits of unambitious welfare recipients doesn't sit right with me; we're not even talking about the super-rich here.

It's curious to me that we're not. Not sure why that is. We're all distracted by our Captive government "accidentally" letting us all know that some Wu-Tang member might be skating for a sec, but (self-righteous as they might be about penny-ante BS) no one is willing to confront the fact that our supposedly "representative" Gummint is happily handing out BILLIONS of dollars of "no-bid" contracts to the same companies that sold us the technology to blow the everloving poop out of the little brown people who had the misfortune of sitting on OUR OIL.

The United States has become a Kleptocracy. Everyone who isn't middle(or upper)-class and American knows that...because they've all suffered it in some way or another. The only question is did it become so because it was structurally necessary (ie. inevitable) or because someone dropped the ball somewhere? My inclination is towards the later, but I'm in a minority. And if you're looking to argue the larger question (eg. You think we're awesome and misunderstood), you're a fool, or at least you'll be viewed as such by everyone who doesn't carry a US Passport, regardless of how Nice we've been to them with our stolen money and prestige in the past. Ask them.
