Attendance tracking

I think I am pretty open minded. I mean, I definitely didn't get here by being a company man in the navy :) But I just haven't seen such a thing. Granted I haven't been here as long as you have

Guy is a good friend of mine and I wouldn't wish what happened to him on anyone. Can't be specific at all but it was awful.

The union at my place is quick to remind everyone that the FAA says you cannot exercise your medical certificate if you have any Illness, Medication, Stress, Alcohol, Fatigue or Emotions affecting you.

Those things tend to happen to us monthly. Especially when your schedule sucks or you got something important going on. No questions asked.

I’ve always wondered about that. Not like a mental wellness day or what not, but if I’m feeling pretty stressed out with a life outside of work situation I can’t call a general practice doctor to get a note for that. This job that has a couple hundred lives in our hands every working shift, the IMSAFE should be a full stop guard against company pressure. If you have sick time you earned it right? There will always be abusers of it, even with Dr notes, so why bother.

If during an accident investigation they found evidence showing a pilot wanted to call out for this particular flight but was afraid of reprimand, that would be a big issue for the company, especially if the sensationalist media hears about it.

Life, certificate, job.

Protect those things in that order first.

They bring in those extra managers during peak. Those guys gotta have "something" to do. Like harass the hourly's. You should have told him you get two more sick calls before you have to talk to him....haha.
The magazines don’t straighten themselves 🤣.

But how will everyone see that I’m flying this sweet DCA river visual? I also have to check the comments of my day in the life content.

Tell them “it’s been done thousands of times before, without fanfare, you’re not special”

“uhh, do you have a clearance for us?”

My first sick call at Air Wisconsin, threw my back out moving some stuff in the basement. I was on probation and terrified of calling out. “Well we’re gonna need a doctors note.”
“Uhhh, I can’t get out of bed…”
“……”

It was a weird telehealth call.

I will say the night and day difference of mainline vs regionals in how sick calls are treated is nice. Every sick call at the regional was an exercise in limiting punitive exposure to yourself.

I don’t know about anyone else, but anytime I try and schedule a doctors appointment it’s months before they have availability. If you’re being asked for a doctors note because you just had something simple like a cold and didn’t go to the doctor, tell whoever’s asking you’ll be happy to comply… In 6 weeks when the next appointment is. In the mean time you can either trust me as professional, or I’ll enjoy my next 6 weeks off at home per your request.

Like I said, a doctor is not required to make the decision if you are or are not complying with the rules of your medical.

Only you can do that, and the FAA says you must.

Back in the mid-80's when I was living in LA I had a good friend who was an AME for a ton of Continental guys. If they needed a note they would call him and he'd fax them one. Easy peasy.

I don't see why anyone would be concerned about getting a sick note. I went to Urgent Care to get one and the nurse looked at me like I was an alien and then she felt sorry for me. Asked who I worked for. Then she scribbled on a piece of paper that was barely legible and handed it to me.
