ASA will fly for United May 2010

Sad point is the fact UAL needs this money badly. Much like USAirways did with the RAH loan and AWAC.

They must. Did you see the interest rate on that loan? Skywest could give SLM a run for their money in the loan/banking business.

Basically, the point of the article was to underline the fact that regionals are basically gonna have to buy their own flying now. If you don't have a couple of million $$$ to toss into the deal, it's gonna go to someone that does.

The reality is. . .

If mainline didn't outsource their "tiny jet" feed, then they wouldn't be crying for money from the profitable FFD companies or being bought outright.

That last one is what scares me. United is more or less ripe for the pickings for someone like Skywest to buy. They've got tons of disposable cash sitting around, and Tilton would likely take it in a heartbeat to start early retirement.

I dont think you buy a company headed for BK before they file. Let the creditors take the hit for the debt, and buy the good parts.

+1
Better yet, become a creditor for the company, let them go BK, then forgive your debt when you buy them up... oh wait, I think I've read this story before.
