ASA will fly for United May 2010

Yeah, still down here in GA.

If, more than likely. Haven't hit my "Eject" point yet. Still have about 8 years to go before my first benchmark. If it's not met, then yeah - then I'll be gone.

What I've been up to though, not much. Being a dad, playing some golf, playing the PS3, work, and full time student.

Nice man. I'll be on the street probably early next year, courtesy of mother D. I take it with a grain of salt, it's out of my control so I won't grow any gray hairs from it. Kinda suxs for some of my classmates though. This is gonna be their 3rd furlough in the last 2 years. Anyway, good luck in watever you do. Better yet, good luck to us all!

Come on Marcus, don't rub it in. . .or don't give the appearance of rubbing it in.

R-e-l-a-x.

Get laid. Get drunk, both, something.

Something he's "unable" to do.... Women have to like... Ah never mind not worth it......Guess the other he might be able to do.

Apparently Marcus is the new Chris Ford was it? Or was it Chad? Eh either way, Mr Rumor know it all....

Real quick Marcus... Skywest already had well over 900 million before ASA ever joined them? You are now willing to admit that perhaps Skywest is helping you all out? I DOUBT this flying would have been given to ASA if it were not for the relationship between Skywest and UAL...

You of all people should know that there is a difference between SkyWest Inc. and SkyWest Airlines.

Come on man, pick up your skills, you're starting to slip.

"Under the terms of the various agreements executed between SkyWest Airlines and United, SkyWest Airlines extended to United a secured term loan in the original principal amount of $80 million"

RIGHT from the article.... It doesnt say Skywest Inc... It says Skywest AIRLINES....

Old news.

This is just the appetizer towards the main course. Look for Skywest Airlines and ASA to split the upcoming United RFP. Both airlines will most likely be hiring by Summer '09. With 1 billion excuse me, 920 million in the bank, Skywest Inc. has launched the era of the Super Regional.

:rotfl:

I can't even begin to say how ridiculous this sounds. Could it happen? Sure... Would I bet on it? Hell no.

We all hear the same rumors you do, but most of the ASA guys here don't feel the need to post them like we heard them straight from JA himself. I think its immature and irresponsible to post stuff like this.

Interesting thing to note is that when this was first published on SkyWest's website, Chip mentioned that the deal included a "last look" provision on the first 30 large turboprops for United. I just looked again and they edited it out.

Well congrats ASA, but it's really hard for me to be happy for yet another airline getting growth while we stay stagnent. I wish skywest would get some flying once in a while.
Umm...well lets see here.

We just started 4 new cities from SFO(PHX, MCI, PSC, and GEG), and Mammoth from SEA, and in 5 days we start SFO-SAN.

In December we're starting ORD-DLH, DEN-SDF, and about 5 other new routes, AND we also just picked up 8(I think) EAS cities, such as Eau Claire, to fly to from ORD when the Midwest RJs are put into the UA side. Plus it was announced by our COO before that we will have first dibs for UAX "Large Turboprop" flying.

Meanwhile ASA gets some flying that stops more furloughs and gives some hope for recalls if they flying expands.

So yeah, its about time we get some damn flying!:sarcasm:

Infact, lookie what was just posted today from the said COO, though the part about the "Large Turboprops" was removed. I wonder why? Did he say too much?

Today we announced the extension of our current agreement with United Airlines. This is a significant move that will add value for both our partner and for SkyWest Airlines. The agreement extends our current contract by more than 8 years of flying for 40 jets within our fleet.

The agreement outlines that SkyWest will provide a loan to United Airlines in the amount of $80 million with an interest rate of 11% over a ten-year amortization period. The loan is secure, and extends the scope of our current United Capacity Purchase agreement. The loan includes an additional lending facility for up to $49 million at a rate of 8%, for a loan totaling up to $129 million. By investing in our partnership, SkyWest gains a significant extension to our current contract and further security of flying with our current fleet.

So where will these 40 jets be flying? Since the agreement includes aircraft already within our current fleet, the flying will initially continue out of our current United hubs, including Chicago, Denver and on the West Coast, with strong potential for continued growth throughout the United system.

Another portion of the United deal is a new code-share agreement with ASA, who will begin flying 13 of their existing aircraft as United Express beginning next year. The ASA agreement is over a five-year term, with routes anticipated on the East Coast. From an operational perspective, this decision makes sense for both us and ASA, with ASA operating where they already have a presence and the vast majority of United flying remaining at SkyWest.

In short, there are a few key elements to the agreement. First, the deal invests in our future as a strong United Express carrier, a significant part of our operation today. Second, it eliminates some “tail risk” -- the risk we assume between the time our agreement ends and the time our aircraft come off lease. Finally and most importantly, it guarantees SkyWest Airlines flying for 40 aircraft over an additional 8+ years, enhancing the security of each our futures.

I realize you may have more questions about the agreement; read the Q&A below and we’ll keep you informed with regular updates and any new news that impacts our operation. I want to thank you for continually producing the credibility necessary to secure existing and potential partnerships – and in turn, securing the long-term success of SkyWest Airlines and our people.

Thanks for all you do,

Chip

Q&A

What type of aircraft are the 40 regional jets?

The agreement specifically applies to CRJ200 aircraft.

Why is ASA entering a partnership with United? Will they take over SkyWest routes?

From an operational perspective, it makes sense that ASA will operate where they already have a presence. Their United flying will have no impact on SkyWest’s operation.

Where will SkyWest’s aircraft fly?

Our flying will initially continue out of our current United hubs, including Chicago, Denver and on the West Coast, with strong potential for continued growth throughout the United system.

How many RJs are part of the deal?

The current agreement extends flying for 40 regional jets at SkyWest Airlines.

How long is the extension?

The terms of the agreement extend our current flying for approximately 8.4 years.

How does the agreement benefit SkyWest?
The deal invests in our future as a strong United Express carrier, eliminates tail risk and secures SkyWest Airlines flying for 40 aircraft over an additional 8+ years – all ultimately benefiting SkyWest’s people and enhancing the security of each our futures.
Damn ASA stealing all Skywest's thunder right?:sarcasm:

I think it's pretty sad that no one has mentioned the other side of this which is the loss of mainline airplanes more importantly mainline jobs. No one, with the exception of Trip7, should be excited about more RJs.

Ok Sorry, I can't just not comment on this. Lets create a little list here.
ASA - Pilots on Furlough
Pinnacle - Stagnant for 3 years and lucky to not have furloughed yet
Mesaba - Pilots on Furlough
Eagle - Pilots on Furlough
Mesa - Pilots on Furlough
Comair - Lots of pilots on furlough
Republic - Pilots on Furlough
Horizon - Pilots on Furlough
Compass - Stagnant
Express Jet - Pilots on Furlough

Skywest - Managment just signed a sweet deal that keeps flying for 8 more years and keeps a good partnership with united.

There is a lot of people without jobs that might not like what you just posted just to let you know. Be thankful you work for a regional that has money and a well run management team.

You shoud be ready for more growth on the asa side of the operation as delta starts consolidating stuff in the real near future

That's kinda obvious.

Mainline jobs will not come back until mainline pilots proactively start working for sure up scope. If ASA didn't get this flying, someone else would.

But his loss of a job for a mainline pilot to gain it would be the end of the world... I mean he couldnt fly his CRJ900 in and out of ATL to the Mexico and other vacation locations..... I mean they make 38k plus PER DIEM (that we know someone constantly counts towns their income).

Since I started at Skywest a year ago I've seen almost every single West Coast city that was served by 737s go to our CRJs. RNO, EUG, PDX, SNA, BUR...they all went to us. Its getting to the point where I almost think UA is destined to become what Pan Am was in the early 80s before it picked up National Airlines, which is doing nothing but trans-cons and international flights. Hopefully this will never happen.

Plus United is now saying the 757s are going to be the next to go when the 737s are all gone later this month, tho a retirement date has yet to be announced. Seeing as no new mainline aircraft replaced the 737s, I wonder whats to become of the 757s down the road.

:clap:Thank you. With a shrinking economy and unemployment close to 10%, being stagnant is actually quite remarkable.
