AS hiring Aug 2024

EHhhhh it's okay. It does a few things (reroutes, diversions, and some of the tools for making routes in weather) extremely well. It also has a lot of flaws and bugs. At my carrier it has few, if any, people that just love it. Most are of the polar opposite opinion.

Far from terrible in my opinion but it's also far from time saving when you consider all the stuff you have to fix (bad routes, illegal alternates, if you aren't extremely careful it will continue to try to optimize and will change routes after release and then reinit'ing the route after an mel gets added so your crew has one route and atc has another) or the stuff we could do in bulk before (selecting a common runway, intersection, temp, field condition) that now has to be done manually for each flight. It's a wash on time savings. It does get intuitive though the more you use it.

Not to mention the cost index changing after delays/gate returns and you see your below in your fuel. I always lock in my CI's at the start of the shift.

What parts of Seattle do most dispatchers live in? I know the Hub is just SE of the airport, but whenever I look into Seattle real estate it seems the areas north of Seattle or to the east are the more desirable areas. Haven’t heard much about the areas south of the city and closer to the Hub.

Most live to the South or Southeast, where real estate is more reasonable. Think Auburn, Kent, Puyallup, Bonney Lake, Federal Way etc. Some even make the commute from Gig Harbor, across the bridge from Tacoma.

A few people live in Seattle or Tacoma proper, but they are in condo's, or rentals, and are usually on the younger / single / childless types that don't mind the insane housing costs due to the social / nightlife scene.

We have a lot of commuters, including myself since we have a pretty good commuter policy. There's people that live in Georgia, Texas, California, etc.

Seatac, Burien, i.e. the closest areas to the airport are generally a lot of older homes, and kind of ghetto to be honest haha. The office is kind of in an unfortunate location unless you're a commuter trying to fly straight home after work.
