Ari Ben Aviator

Greaper, are you working on the Q in EWR? Just curious. I'm living in central MA and making the drive down about once a week. Are you driving or trying to fly out of BDL?

The Aviator, The Aviator, don't really tell me that some of you guys are actually considering going to school there. It is highly laughable the situation that is going on there now. 20 bucks an hour for flight but no ground pay... HMMMM How much ground am I going to do. A big fat ZERO. The living situation another laughable matter, the aviator used to be a fun place to go to school. You show up and it was a constant party, You flew through ratings, took a checkride and partied, you flew one lesson for the day went home relaxed for a while and then partied, you didn't fly at all for the day because the put you on the no fly list for no reason, screw might as well party. Now not so much, it is like one of those mormon work camps without the polygamy. If the higher ups who seemingly try to control your lives would just leave you alone be happy that they are getting paid and not worried about how many beers you had to drink three days before you started instrument ground school the place would still be jumping, and noone would care about how much they were getting paid because they would be flying 6 hours a day and still be able to survive. My advice even though I didn't read every post is choose somewhere else, get as much as you can done at an FBO and then do 100 hours timebuilding there and get done in 2 weeks or less so you do not get permanently scarred for life like a majority of people who post on this topic.

DISCLAIMER:
I am in now way affilated with ARI BEN Aviator, or the entities that comprise management there. I have no previous knowledge or influence on what other have to say in response to this, and this is only one mans opinion about their past experiences at the previously mentioned flight school. And any threats that will be made to me about slander or whatever it is they think posting on an open forum about an opinion entails can be forwarded to my attorney, PM me and I will give you the information.

Holy run on sentence..... I don't know what the Gravy-ator is like now, but I still think it was a good bang for the buck.

(when did you start getting 20 an hour for flight, I was only making 15 for a pro or 10 for an add on, you guys are pushing what I made my first year at Colgan).

Alright captain, my grammar may not be perfect but that is not the message I was trying to get across. I missed some commas here and there, have fun flying the saab or q400 whatever you are in at the moment, and the big 20 dollar an hour for instruction is way below par of what everyone else pays. Better than 15 but still not worth it just because of the amount of multi time that you get. Not to mention pieces of the plane coming off during flight. Say something as integral as a flap...:nana2: Dancing bananas are cool:nana2:

Say something as integral as a flap...

lol, I heard about that! Apparently B.B. was giving an MEI checkride yesterday (July 23rd), during the Power-Off Stall portion one flap went down and the other went UP! To make a long story short this was the last straw for B.B, all the Duchesses were grounded, and the FSDO was called.

Poor old Ball Buster. He must be real pissed with the Aviator to have the planes grounded. After all, it's a big source of cash for him. I feel for these DPE's. At the time I thought they were making easy money but no, this is a risk job. He's had one big incident before in N278D. The brakes failed at holding point Bravo and he crashed off the taxiway, causing big damage to the plane.

So now we'll see what old Steve Brady, from the FSDO wil do. Mike, you sure are screwing around the wrong people right now!

I wish to disclaim that the information I have quoted above is the unadulterated impartation of information provided by current students of Ari Ben Aviator Inc. -who shall remain nameless. Just wanted to cover my bases.

Im a student at DCA, DCA maybe an expensive school but you are getting what you pay for. If you are within PTS you will finish with the minimums and it wont be expensive. I had visited Ari Ben with a friend who was considering leaving DCA for Ari Ben back in march and I was blown away. We asked the instructor basic questions about the airplane, fuel burn? he said "anywhere between 7-9 gal/hr." What the, are you serious the cirrus we fly burns 10 gal/hr. and what is this anywhere between??? I was scared, and shocked.

Why were you scared and shocked? 7 - 9 GPH is probably a reasonable range for each engine, depending upon power setting.

When I was there on long legs if I was going to pay for fuel I would lean it out to 4.5-5 GPH a side. I payed for fuel not engines.

I'd say that was a reasonable answer. These planes are 20+ years old, they don't give you the same fuel burn that the CFM says. You learn which ones go easy on fuel and which ones are hogs. I believe 110SU was a decent plane for both speed and burn. At Colgan we do an engine trend every morning on the Saab, part of that trend is to measure the fuel flow for each engine. I can tell you that it's rarely the same for each engine. There is usually about a 20 to 40 PPH difference per engine.

I'm not trying to be a dick here but....I hope you have some help with that 100,000 dollar plus loan from DCA. My 40,000 dollar loan from the Slaviator has been tough to pay off on flight instructor and FO pay. I can't imagine having mortgage sized loan payments just to go somewhere with the same name as a major airline.

I'm sure the cirrus burns something other than 10gph at times, like any other plane. I worked with a guy who went to DCA and he wrecked TWO planes on different occasions during taxi operations. So now he has $100,000 student loan AND an insurance company after him for $150,000. Good luck man...

Just remember, if you are going to Ari Ben, there is only one choice in an instructor. He has been there longer than anyone else, and will be there for life. He is Mike Cohen's only black son, and he is the one, the only,

Brian Bell reads it, cuz i get calls from him asking me to stop posting his name on here. But it's too funny not to, and pluse he could use the business. He really needs to get out of there, its been well over a year now.
