Any runners out there??????

10k on Sunday was a last minute disaster. I was on pace for breaking the 1:10 minutes time until the 4th mile when the heat and high humidity won. I finished at around 1:15. maybe next time for my PR.......

The 3rd quarter of a race is a weak point for most. I've heard that if you're feeling like crap, consider running faster (not a lot, just a little). If you get to the halfway point and you do a diagnostics and your brain says "this isn't sustainable", try pushing up the throttles and working on catching some people up ahead. Pick someone 1/8 to 1/4 mile ahead and slowly reel them in, agreeing that if you catch them, you can consider slowing back down after that. You'd be surprised what happens after that. The key is not doing a lot of up tempo for the 1st half, so you don't have dead legs. The first half of a race should be a model of exact application of a well thought out plan. A proper, relaxed pace. You will almost always have a sensation trying to get you to ease back later and there are a few different ways of fighting the urge, depending on what your goals are. I really do like the early acceleration agreement, though. It's like tricking yourself into pushing a little harder early than you wanted to instead of giving in and before you know it, you're hitting the last 1/4 of the distance and you already have momentum. Now it's time to find out what you're really made of and sometimes, you're ready for the the challenge!

Hello everyone, it's been years since I posted on JC. Love running, it keeps me sane and healthy mainly after sitting for hours in the airplane. Anyone doing Marine Corp Marathon this coming year? Cheers!

My dad ran the Marine Corp Marathon as his first (and only...so far) marathon at the age of 65. (That was 18 years ago so his marathon days are probably behind him. :D ) He is proud of his time in the Corps, as he should be.

As he should be! My boss was in the Marines too, so he's excited that I'm running it.

Finishing with gas in the tank means you are getting more fit! And it makes the EPA happy.

Another 5k this Sunday, did break the 30:00 minutes mark. My time was 29:50 for a new PR now I wonder how these kids can run 3.1 miles in 15 minutes????:(

Strength, stride length and turnover rate, all of which take years to refine. That and they have only the most essential of body fat. Nice PR, btw. My oldest ran her 1st 5k a week and a half ago in about 40 minutes. She's got a ways to go!

5K today 30:37 minutes, getting better and at the end I felt that could run 3 more miles...........;)

Nice. Just hit 33:00ish myself. Think I'm gunna start doing XFIT to get over this plateau. That and up the intensity. 5K's alone at a comfortable pace don't seem to be showing much time improvement.

Fartleks help and intervals do as well!

C'mon people!
