I'm a function>form kind of guy, so I wear the shorts every day. I do feel ridiculous, mailman describes it perfectly. I agree, these new shirts will help. I don't think the boxes will mind ;)

I wore polo shirts as much as I could get away with it when I was at AMF. I was spoiled when I first got to CVG and wore polos instead of the uniform. I wore a polo anytime I was out of management's sight. I wore a fleece zipped all the way up in the winter time instead of a uniform shirt during the winter (stole this tactic from a SEA ACP) to throw management off.

I helped start a trend of wearing polo shirts while on reserve in MIA. By the time I left, pilots were wearing jeans and t shirts while on reserve.

I do believe that AMF will improve lots of things in order to slow the flood of pilots leaving.

It's not necessarily because they are not recruiting quality candidates on a consistent basis. I was a recruiter and did a lot of interviewing. The quality of candidates they are getting is great. Some of the bad apples in management have left. They've been talking about pay going up for a while now. It needs to happen yesterday. I hope that they can find a way to continue to issue ATP's. It's a big ticket and very attractive to guys looking to go corporate.

Totally agree. My beef is that with everyday that goes by with my buddies not getting a raise, it further shows how the top could care less about keeping anyone. Sure, on my top 10 list of things I hated at AMF, the monkey suit was one of them. Was it top 3? Hell no! PAY PAY PAY, and PAY! After that, PAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AMF is a business that has been in existence for a long time, so changing pay scales and giving raises is not something new. This could have, and should have been done years ago. Sure it isn't an overnight thing, but should have been done years ago, and should have been the first on the list when AL took over, unfortunately I think he shares the same mentality of GR that pilots are replaceable, and it is cheaper to train than cheaper to keep. Although I don't see how that makes financial sense at all. Management is smart, I know they won't let it get to a disparity level like GLA, but it is going down that road.

The new owner is a heck of a nice guy. I had the opportunity to meet him before I left. I picked him up and fly him to a meeting. They should take him and his partners out to meet all the pilots so that he can explain his vision of where he'd like to take the company.

I do think pay needs to go up or face a GLA situation of plenty of planes and routes but no pilots. But then again, on some other forums there are still plenty of guys out there looking to break into 135 freight that defend the pay and QOL before even showing up for class. So there are still plenty starry eyed's out there.

Hays Kansas might roll over when GLA cancels the fifth flight for the week but UPS will rip AMF a new one. All of a sudden those old outfits that used to pay 45k for those routes in a 99 or caravan will get a knock on their door from UPS.
UPS has no loyalty and has plenty of money.

Do you know something?

The new VP of Ops is a pretty nice guy as well, from what I have heard. The rumor is that he comes from the 121 world.

I think everyone in just about every job wants more pay. Heck, even Jeter and LeBron would take more money if it was offered. I think that the problem is that as long as the regionals and other 135's pay less, there is little reason to raise pay at AMF. It would help them keep a percentage of the pilots another 6 months to a year, but that is about it. Most are just trying to get their time so they can move on to bigger and better things. If the pay AND QOL improved, it would be more of a reason to possibly make it a career destination, but pay alone would not do this for me. Spending 5 days a week in some crappy crew apartment and only getting a few days vacation every year is not a great QOL. Flying old planes in the middle of the night is not a great QOL. That is, however, the job.

I am not defending AMF at all, but rather examining the state of the industry. They have made some steps in the right direction with the uniform change, the increase in jump seat agreements, and the change in some mid level management. It will be interesting to see what will come next.

The new owner? Meaning Pebbles?

Big difference from wanting more money, and being paid lower than industry standard.

After the first year at a regional, the pay starts to even out between AMF and half way decent regionals, with an increase in QOL. No I don't work for a regional. Just making light to the fact that AMF doesn't have a corner in any part of the industry that others cannot touch anymore. Sure you can be a training captain and check airmen, work 4 times as hard and make some more cash at AMF, that is without a doubt true. But I feel like they are slowly losing the reasons to go 135 freight. Other companies that offer more desirable job characteristics (pay, QOL, equipment, schedule etc.) have already lowered their requirements, and will continue to do so. People laugh at the idea of a pilot shortage, but it's here, and it will get worse, especially with good jobs opening up.

The problem is that people still believe this about regional pay. Don't get me wrong both are under paid, but the old adage of pay evening out after five years is realistically 1.5 years, then you are behind being at AMF and you have a horrible QOL and possible financial penalty of starting at year one of a regional anyway, which would completely kill the pitiful 1.5 year deal anyway.

And I only know ONE freight outfit that pays worse, I'm sure there are others, but I know one.

How long have we been flying UPS/FedEx freight? Now we finally get something in return. Looks like management is trying to stop attrition. Slowly.

For me, the pay and bennies wouldn't keep me here. It just doesn't make sense to stay here when most HR departments want the jet/glass/crew/121 box checked. Dumb, but it's the way it is.

That being said, there's flow actively in the works supposedly, and it was the other company's idea... Given the position that other company sits in and what they can hire, I'll believe it when I see it. :)

Eh, it's still my theory that, having 1000s in PIC time, you could jump to mainline after a year(probably not the big 3). I haven't seen anyone do that yet though, but I don't know of any one personally that's trying very hard either.
