KB, when you made that 65K how many months were you home that year? I can't imagine it was much. From my time there, experience is great, pay is poor, however it can be improved greatly if you are willing to go TDY all the time. I was hardly able to get per-diem and was home 1.5 every week. However i did learn more in that year then i ever did flight training and would not trade that time for anything.

Yes but you got the fly with one of the greatest captains known to mankind. :)

My point is there are ways to make more than base pay. I know that there's a base in the company that can be a black hole and there are runs that can suck the life out of you.

The best advice I could give to someone looking to come to the company is to do your research. Don't just blindly go into it. Some positions and places are better than others. Find what works for you and when things stop working for you, find something else to do.

It could be attained. I'm just a plain old line pilot myself. Not even a training captain. If we're training as many pilots as we are why not ask to be a training captain? That could easily be obtained. You could easily break 35 grand doing that. Just about anyone who did halfway decent in training could be one.
Heh, I was CRAP in training! Ask and if you're not a weirdo, you shall receive.

Great advice. You have to be wired right to do it, or it can be really burdensome. Make sure freight is right for you, make sure AMF is right for you, and even then your milage will vary with the base. It is one hell of a good place to gain some experience that is for sure. Get in, do it until you can stand it, then get out.

Just wanted to wake this thread up and say that I did my phone interview with Sheri a few days ago (went well, she is a pleasure to talk to) and am scheduling an in-person interview for sometime in July, aiming for the 9/9 class!

Study the LA area approaches and VORs.

Where are you going to interview?

Not sure yet. CVG is drivable but I have some Southwest credits saved up and might see about going to BUR,HWD or PDX. Is any particular spot 'better' than another?
Don't know for sure, but the guy in OMA is pretty laid back. The sim they use at the college flies really well.

Sounds like fun. I'm disappointed that my class got pushed back from June to July. Now I've got way more time than I was planning on between jobs.
