Amazon Air MIA Runway Excursion

He’s about the only one I can stomach anymore. He puts out a good, knowledgeable summary.
Magnar Nordal (retired ATR Captain) has a nice, down to earth and nicely technical channel too. Worth checking out for those curious about the ATR and its crashes related to icing.

I saw this data pop up on Reddit, pretty interesting:

I have seen a fairly common mistake that can make the 767-300 suddenly speed up when you’re starting the approach (FLCH to VNAV without intervening/opening speed window).

Very easily fixed by experienced crews (open speed window after selecting VNAV).

Very curious to see how this all turns out.
If that’s legit, it answers my question about how far outside the norm the reported 180 knots at the threshold would be. Those folks were cooking, whether due to being unstable, wind shear, or other possible reasons remains to be seen.

If it was wind shear I’d think we’d hear tower issue it assuming the LLWAS was working
AFAICT so far, Tower didn't issue any winds at all, which is kind of odd.

That said, c'mon. These guys clearly overcooked it for whatever reason(s) and then missed about four chances to go around and try again. Cue CQ12 2027 where we somehow get ourselves way too fast/high for a stabilized approach...

Truth is, I thought it mattered
I thought that music mattered
I thought that TDZ’s mattered
I thought that glideslope mattered.
Not compared to how people matter

We'll be singin'
When we're winnin'
We'll be singin'

I get knocked down
But I get up again
You're never gonna keep me down

You're never gonna keep me down

Mods I'm partly to blame here: can we split-off the YouTube personality chat from this thread that's nominally about an accident where people died?

Thanks in advance.
It’s a forum??? Like every single thread gets derailed then news comes out and the convo gets back on track. What lol

We should honestly be celebrating it hasn’t gotten to lavatory levels of derailment and arguing this many days in.

because there’s a whole strategy to game the algorithm to promote your videos based on the thumbnail

To the topic of Sretin and 539Restorations, even he recently admitted that he is gonna start including promotions and *thumbnails. It just is what it is. I understand that he needs the revenue, that whole channel has to be wildly expensive. I know how much a 2 post lift is, and he bought like 5, plus most recently a BMW alignment machine, wheel balance machine, tire installer, and the list goes on and on, and oh yeah, whole new shop too. I also know that he is easily sinking 30+k euro into most of these builds. Probably much more on the ones that involve an engine rebuild/block work. Likes don't pay for that, nor do subscriptions alone. There are very few channels that I am receptive to this monetization, but this is one of them. The value of the content is very high.

My biggest fear, timing chain guides.

FDR data suggests there was ambivalence about a go around, advancing the throttles then returning to idle. Planned landing weight was 231.2 klbs. T/Rs and speed brakes never indicated deployed.

CVR readout planned for tomorrow; ATC transcripts still being compiled.

Bust the TDZ and not having a sense of imminent need of brakes, boards, TR’s? That’s clown sheeet.

Plowing grass and asphalt for 1300 feet beyond a 9k runway, the Space Shuttle did better.
