Magnar Nordal (retired ATR Captain) has a nice, down to earth and nicely technical channel too. Worth checking out for those curious about the ATR and its crashes related to icing.

I have seen a fairly common mistake that can make the 767-300 suddenly speed up when you’re starting the approach (FLCH to VNAV without intervening/opening speed window).

Very easily fixed by experienced crews (open speed window after selecting VNAV).

Very curious to see how this all turns out.
If that’s legit, it answers my question about how far outside the norm the reported 180 knots at the threshold would be. Those folks were cooking, whether due to being unstable, wind shear, or other possible reasons remains to be seen.
 
If it was wind shear I’d think we’d hear tower issue it assuming the LLWAS was working
AFAICT so far, Tower didn't issue any winds at all, which is kind of odd.

That said, c'mon. These guys clearly overcooked it for whatever reason(s) and then missed about four chances to go around and try again. Cue CQ12 2027 where we somehow get ourselves way too fast/high for a stabilized approach...
