ALPA Dues Refund

We used to get a “turkey coupon” at ExpressJet every November. Felt some shame in the Albertsons check out handing it to the cashier and getting the oh you’re poor look.

Young people today will never know the struggle of knowing that going to the EBT/Food Stamp office to apply for benefits in your airline uniform became a fireable offense because the general public could never know that teenage fast food wages were being paid to highly trained professional airline pilots flying around aircraft painted in legacy colors.

We had a campaign similar at Skyway and the company lost it's nuggets over the visuals.

Hell, I lived in low-income housing in Oak Creek. It was Skyway pilots and single parents. $430/month and I netted $493 every two weeks (we were on a salary), unless I did an overnight and got paid $20 in per diem.

The irony being is that you had usually had to have well in excess of 1,500 hours at those places to even have your resume moved from the shredder pile.

I don't know about never- those days could easily come back if there's ever as much competition for pilot jobs at the regionals as there was back then.

Just imagine being one of “those” AA pilots looking at ALPA after they negotiated multiple industry leading contracts and they’re continuing to give dues back due to surplus and being like…nah…that’s not for me.

Wild.

Didn't United ALPA deliver the TUMI TA to membership? Let's be clear: Everyone rode DALPA's coattails on this round of negotiations. We pay less dues at APA and are about to receive a dues holiday due to a grievance against the company. We also have an in house medical team that is way better than contracting out the service to AMAS. APA also has unique insurance products that ALPA doesn't have.

With all of that said, APA has plenty of problems, which everyone is aware of. They have constantly squashed efforts to vote for ALPA. I believe the membership should be able to vote on ALPA and let the chips fall where they may.

Personally, I am indifferent. Let the vote happen and let membership decide.

I mean pattern bargaining is kind of how this whole pilot contract thing works and has always worked. Yes we did have the Tumi contract however that leadership group was mostly voted out, the TA failed miserably, and they were sent back to the drawing board with new leadership. The Tumi TA wasn’t an ALPA failure, it was a MEC failure.

I’ve never had a single issue with AMAS, on the other hand I’ve got nothing but glowing reviews for them and I’ve used them multiple times.

When I was at Kalitta I voted against the Teamsters decertification vote and the switch to ALPA. At the time coming off the ABX status quo strike I thought there was a benefit to keeping the DHL ramp all Teamsters. After the vote passed and I started working with ALPA it was night and day. There’s something to be said about having access to the largest and most powerful pilot union in the world. It didn’t take me very long to realize I made a mistake, and I should have voted for the switch too.
