To be 100% honest- imma huge fan of domestic CPDLC. So much easier. That said, easy enough to detect before executing and most likely still a lower error rate than hand jamming it every time

CPDLC and we love it, but Washington screwed the pooch and can’t send route updates- so we hate them.
Insert, accept, activate. It’s awesome.
I hate Washington.
We used to fly VFR out of TEB a lot when I started at Airnet back in '05. Turn north to the GWB, 1000' to the Alpine Tower then 2500' to the Tappan Zee and turn right to HFD/BDL. That was back when the Dalton and the VOR-A were still things there also. That's about a 065 heading from Teb to Massaholessettes. Not much to hit in between except the alpine tower. Sendit!
Sucks that it’s center only at this point.. but, 1/2 a beer is better than no beers. So I’ll take what I can get, but push for full implementation as much as I can..CPDLC should be a game changer at all those remote airports. But the entire system is lagging with the procedures to make it effective.
Where is that video? The video of the guy trying to do that out of BFI going to Greece in the Global is both hilarious and infuriating.

I was wondering about this because a lot of the comments keep mentioning something about ground and tower not communicating but I feel like that's not really in the video, unless I missed something.Ah this one, they took off on 32L due to APG requirements and the controllers told them only if they depart VFR. They had already picked up IFR on the ground.
Yeah I think this was mostly on the controllers and a foreign crew not fully understanding the airspace environment with those three airports.I was wondering about this because a lot of the comments keep mentioning something about ground and tower not communicating but I feel like that's not really in the video, unless I missed something.
Have you ever flown out of a busy untowered airport on a good VFR day and tried to do an IFR departure with a tight void time?I freaking hate people who don’t get their clearances on the ground. I don’t care if you depart vfr and activate it in the air later, but I ain’t reading you a full route clearance halfway across the country while you’ve been flying the wrong way from the first fix for the last 30 miles.

All I’ll say is that I’ve had one facility in the country yell at me (and literally call me stupid) for an airborne IFR pickup and it’s where you work.
Life’s too short to be mad 110% of the time and yet every time I go somewhere served by NY approach they’re giving “ready to rage-quit” vibes. Maybe I just fly on the wrong days or maybe I fly a jet that can take bird strikes from behind?
Nope. Please stop. As the man said: This isn't the place to do that. I've flown through there the for many years. Those controllers are amazing. People that do what you are describing give GA a bad name. Not only are causing all of the issues that @NovemberEcho is describing, but in the meantime, a half dozen airliners are blowing through their arrival fixes, trying to check on while he is dealing with figuring out the clearance. If you need to get on CTAF, and coordinate, man up and do it, but don't make literally thousands of peoples lives harder because you can't be bothered.I get that the job sucks. Bad airspace design, lots of traffic, lack of staffing, etc. And NYC sucks. Too many people too close together and everyone is upset about it. But again, never have I been someplace that likes to chew on pilots so much. Like, the airtime that was spent chewing on me for not picking up my clearance on the ground that infamous time (departing Lincoln park in a 206…not like I was doing 200 kts) was longer than the clearance. And yeah, I might not be the only plane in the sky but when I have a solid red blob of nope in front of me and I’m being asked if I’m afraid to get my plane wet…that doesn’t happen anywhere else in the lower 48. I wish the FAA would at a minimum bring back jumpseat rides, but I also think there needs to be some sort of job shadow process to keep facilities from falling into groupthink.
It's not. It's more about the release. The hope is that by departing VFR and grabbing the clearance in the air they can't hold your release because you're already airborne. But this really only works once you've worked clear of the congestions that's causing the delay in the release time.ok, I'm missing something
Why is it difficult to get clearance on the ground?
